Been Trying To Quit For Years and Getting Nowhere

    So I try and quit, and even "reboot", but not getting anywhere

    so...
    I tried counseling (professional sex addiction councilor)
    I tried locking my laptop away
    I tried installing blocking software
    I try socialising
    I try playing music in a band - and onstage to expand my comfort zone
    I try other hobbies
    I try exercise
    I try meditation
    I try calling people up when I'm down
    I try posting on here
    I try confiding in others
    I try learning more about addiction generally
    I try everything that your meant to do and I'm not getting any real improvement.

    Now I feel horrible

    are you trying to stop just looking at p or masturbating altogether?

    looks like you're trying to many things. find one thing, or a couple things only, that can occupy your time and energy.

    @yyz33 & @MusicMan123 I need and want to quit porn, and to throttle right back on masturbation as well - not quit masturbation but ease up on it
    Rebooting as in quitting masturbation all together for a length of time is something I have tried as well, I managed no masturbation for about 2 weeks once several years ago
     
  6. Lower your expectations until you begin to make progress dude.

    For example, try no P but you can MO as much as you want. If that seems to work, then MO every other day and so forth.

    If no P but MO does not work, then try to PMO just once a day or something and then once every 2 days etc.

    Basically, start from somewhere you know you can make progress no matter how small is my opinion.

    Sell your devices with internet access or just get rid of your router until you have more control. Clearly you don't have the self control to resist the urges so it's time to take more drastic steps if you're serious about this.

    yeah it an be tough. The only solution that I have ever found that works for me is the pluckeye extension for chrome. That and meditation. I recommend the Waking Up with Sam Harris app for guided meditations. To block p on the phone I would get the offtime and spin browser apps.

    I understand your frustration dude. This addiction is hard to shake. I have been trying to quit for the last three years and have done most of the things on your list as well.

    One of the things I am doing now is NOT using a counter or keeping track of streaks. I found that if I had a long streak going and slipped, I would shame myself a lot. This doesn't help with anything. If I have a slip now, I just brush it off and move on quickly with something else. The less I think about it the better.
     
  10. It is scientifically proven that will power is finite for a day- like energy. So focus on few things at a time, master them so that you have enough will power left to control the urges. Also dont feel horrible. The fact that you are trying to quit by focusing on improving your life is in itself a positive attitude. Keep going and we are all here to support you.⚡️

  12. I struggled for SIX DAMN YEARS before this current streak. I did PM atleast 3 or 4 times daily. It was really messed up.
    My suggestion is to focus on one goal per month.

    1. Month one- no porn. Try to fap using your imagination.

    2. Month two- fap every alternative days or two, three days. Your choice ( without porn).

    3. Month three- If you are religious, go make a pact with god. If you are atheist, use a coin jar for accountability. Like everyday of NO PMO, you drop few dollars or whatever money into it.

    In the third month you will likely fall quite a few times. No problem. Try to abstain as much possible. Bring the fap count to a minimum number.

    4. Month four- The real struggle- complete abstinence of PMO.

    This post was written in 2019 so I don't know what your current situation is, but if you are still around, you need to do something about blocking porn on your devices. This is an absolute must. Problem is most porn filters can be circumvented, but done the right way, you can make it impossible to circumvent. As an IT Professional I had always found ways to circumvent my porn blocker. Now it is impossible.

    I have been trying nofap ever since I have started jerking of so that's 5 years , I am kind of religious, I got nowhere, my addiction became worse and worse ,from images, to gifs, to clips, to softcore, to lesbian to hardcore. I was destroying myself, until onw day I discovered Exposure and Response Prevention, this changed my life , I am free from hardcore p, I still relapse to non-nude- semi p , just saying , never lose hope , change is possible .
