Something I’ve struggled with in practicing abstinence is the normalcy of P and M in our society. I often see jokes through internet/social media about how frequently people use P, like it’s America’s new favorite pastime. It makes me think it’s normal cause a a large portion of the population is doing it, and has lead to my falter in the past. Now I am just trying to remind myself this is my personal journey. Part of me has this doubt though, that if everyone else can use P and seemingly have no issue in life because of it , why can’t I? I know plenty of folks who do it daily and have healthy relationships and are happy. This is the addict part of my mind, always trying to justify. I’m on day 3 of PMO hard mode, and use the testimonial health benefits from other members on this forum as motivation. I can’t help but having the occasional doubt, but the prospect of the long term far out weighs the short. Any one else with similar thoughts?

  2. Comparing yourself to others is a sure fire way to distort reality. It's hard to ever truly know this below statement.
Keep striving for the authentic and healthy you. I think quitting porn is a long term decision you shouldn't doubt. It's not a silver bullet for the happiest life ever, but it will move the needle significantly in your favor.

I strongly agree with this. OP, you're okay. Don't belittle yourself by comparing your own experience to others'. Everyone is different, no matter how hard you try to fit in. You're your own self, and that's a blessing.

  4. i am a christian and i view porn as sin, so i dont care what the sinful world wants to do, because i am not traveling that path, Matthew 7:13 says
Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the
way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it.

Thank you all for your input and support. My patterns of thinking in this way of comparing lives is something I have to train my mind to stop doing, and im finding is the true theme of this. It’s something that’s developed through past failures/rejections, and my own expectations of where I should be in life.

Well, People will minimize the importance of their addiction (denying it even exists). It's comforting that way. For you, just keep your journey to yourself or a BF/GF if you are in a couple...YOU know now that its bad for you and others. Share this gospel.

Just like every cop movie in Hollywood back in the day, the guys used to smoke cigarettes like its giving them character. Now, tobacco is bad. Pot is becoming legal in Canada. The government wants its shares...they advertise side effects (AT LEAST), but definitely legalized it. There is more and more studies about porn side effects nowadays. Same for the youth and young adults living with their cellphone glued to their hands. My daughter dropped out of school instead of waking up in the morning...she wouldn't sleep at night!

Back in the day, people were looking at porn consumers as "lite perv". I remember going in to the porn vids booth at the local Blockbuster its was a mix of excitement and lite shame....now, because its in widespread use due to the internet, people WILL minimize its side effects, because there is nothing like denial!

Porn, Energy Drinks, social media& associated device are the new underrated PROBLEMS we experience nowadays in our society.

In my workplace, there is now quite a bit of efforts to curb any negative views of ladies and anything "innuendo" in between.

Porn is now portraying a lot of different types of actresses/roles...its no longer the bimbo-type only. You get anything between "faux-cest", step family, your mom, your granny, your teacher, your what-have-you. You get webcam stuff too, that can be damaging for both the viewer and the "actress"...

Its just getting worse and at the same time, there is a part of society that is trying to make porn look normal. I mean lets not demonize it, its just like another addiction like smoking drugs, gambling, drinking, etc. Everything is better with moderation....which is where the addicts fail to stop...what is it 10-15% of the consumers?

I’ve noticed an uptick in the amount of what I would consider taboo fantasies and fetishes available in the free-online porn market, in my short-lived experience. Fantasies with incest seem to be growing in popularity, which is slightly concerning?! I mean what is this doing as a whole to our society? As you said at your workplace , with the whole “‘me too” movement that’s been taking place, you really can never be too careful. If takes away from the genuine possibility mentorship and friendship a man could have towards a women, because of the rational fear a man has of being accused of sexual harassment. Maybe I’m getting a bit off topic here, but I think it’s interesting nonetheless. And funny you say , I actually was working in the legal marijuana industry but recently left the industry. Insomnia is a problem I’ve recently developed after working full time, and the personal side effects of using social media, every day since I was 12, is notable, and plays a part in my addiction.

    @Warrior-of-Discipline ,

Yup, those fantasies were in people's imagination before. Nowadays, I'm not sure exactly how much money the big P sites are generating in revenues, but there is more and more individual "actresses" that seem to do their own thing. They are almost all hitting the same spots in the spectrum of naughty.
One way or another, what was the fruit of one's imagination before is no longer only a thought. The brain doesn't need to think and subtly keeping you horny by the images...now its straight on screen. I found my capacity to fantasize greatly reduced when I was a heavy user of P. Same issue with having issues with erections during real sex with the wife.
I badly needed this reboot time....now I feel better about myself because I don't have to hide.

As for the social media issues and related insomnia, well my kid used to be good at school, until her teenage years were drinking energy drinks, texting and trolling older guys posting fake shit all night, to the point where she dropped out. She is addicted to the "likes" and thumbs ups...

Glad to hear you’re feeling better about yourself man. I’m at just about a week no P, NoFap, and feel great. I never really thought of how much it truly effected me. I feel like I have more energy, and like less of a dirty animal lol.
