  1. I have a question to ask: do porn blockers work? I'm thinking of having porn blockers on my phone so that it won't be very easy to access porn. I think one factor that led to my downfall was that I never bothered to install any kind of porn blocker. I thought that all I needed was my willpower.

Unfortunately, my first relapse was what planted the seeds of defeat for me. I did MO for the first time in 17 months and later on, I started to relapse more now.

And over the past two days, I have been watching degenerate, disgusting filth online. It seems like absolute stupidity (that's because it is) but I had the most intense urges of my life. My willpower was ultimately shattered and ended up giving in to those temptations of the devil as a result.

I knew that I need to do something. I need to step up my game. I need to start being vigilant for now on. It doesn't matter how long my streak is. If I lose my guard, then failure is bound to happen.

That is why I'm thinking of installing porn blockers on my phone (I never used my computer for porn) to ensure that it's harder for me to access porn. I should get a friend to write down the password and tell him/her to throw it away so that I would never know. Of course, I won't tell them why or anything.

So what do you guys or gals think about the plan? Does it help? Has it ever helped you? If so, can you tell me some good porn blockers to install on my phone?

If you can't control yourself to look at porn , it is helpful to have porn blockers :)

I don't know if you use Android or not , i use k9

  3. In my opinion, No it is not helpful. It makes you dependent, which means the person will not train himself to resist against triggers and urges, he will rely on the blocking tool. So whenever you get the opportunity you will just slip directly.

Also when you set a blocker and you become dependent on it, whenever you feel a urge, you will try badly to unlock the blocker.

No, if u need the porn to much u can easily desable them.
    Only ur will power helps

  5. Willpower is not the solution too. But is discipline.

Right, thats what I mean and also some will power is needed

  7. Yes absolutely. I'm using Open DNS on my home internet system. I gave the login info to my AP, so I don't have it. I also gave him the email address I use to login to the porn-blocker, and I blocked the email provider so I can't try to recover my info to get through. I also blocked dating sites, Instagram, and Twitter. I also discontinued the data service on my phone because the porn blocker doesn't work on my phone. It is the best system I have come up with so far and as a result I'm on my longest NoFap streak. At times I have resented or regretted the porn blocker, but it's getting a lot easier now. I set up this system because I knew that I couldn't trust myself. Without the porn blocker, I would have for sure relapsed during this streak. Don't let anybody persuade you not to use one. You can do whatever you want. Porn is a unique kind of "drug" in that the drug dealer is in your own home, as well as in your own body. No other kind of drug is like that, so I think it's perfectly justifiable to block that shit so you have a fighting chance. You can't build your willpower or discipline if you keep relapsing left and right. Don't fall for that

  8. I still use an old flip-phone, so no issues there for me. But I use K9 on my computer, and I like it - I think it's a practical tool to use. However, it really only helps to block accidental triggers. If you decide you're going to PMO, then it's trivial to find away around it. In fact, when I was binging the worst a couple years ago, the disabling of my porn blocker ironically became part of the thrill. Pretty screwed up huh?

Willpower is also not the sole answer imho. We're human. Maintaining willpower 24/7 indefinitely is a tall order. I read somewhere that most New Year's resolutions are broken by Jan. 11 lol.

So what to do? Well I think the answer lies in true change. Within yourself. I think this happens when the pain of porn addiction drives you dig deep, and find a new, more positive way of thinking, of acting, of just being in your own body. You slowly reject a former pattern, and replace it with a real, organically growing belief system that no longer needs, or even wants the porn. You're reaching for something else in life, a better you, a happier you, a more fulfilled you - and you don't need that junk holding you back any more so you just start letting it go from your existence until it recedes into nothingness.

I think of Sam from the old show Cheers, who was an alcoholic, who worked in a bar. Seems crazy at first till you realize he'd already done his inner work. Didn't matter if he was in a bar, or a church, or at home, or in a frigging hot air balloon - deep inside himself he'd let go of that attachment to alcohol and he was at peace.

For me this kind of core inner change is what I'm striving to achieve, since I believe that is the path to true, sustained liberation. That said, I think it makes good sense to use whatever tools/strategies are helpful along the way.

I'm looking to add a blocker on my mac/ipad/iphone as an additional speed bump for urges. I got K9 on my mac to start, as a number of people mention it here. But somehow it doesn't block websites even after I add them to the "never allow" list. Lots of glitches in configuring. Have you ever encountered this?

  10. It is a little glitchy, I think they don't update it much since it's freeware now. I've not had too many problems, but haven't tried it on a mac. The never allow list seems to work well for me if I just add the top-level domain in simple form, e.g. just ... xyz.com. The other setting you should make sure is checked is 'Filter Secure Traffic'. The most annoying thing for me is sometimes it can't connect to the server.

I think they do help, but you have to have the right mindset. You have to realize when that filter pops up, you have a second chance to say no. Give the account to someone else and let them set the password so you can't disable it.
Try covenant eyes. It does cost money, but it helps. A porn blocker just slows you down. An accountability filter makes you think first, because your partner is going to see what you did. Also try OpenDNS on your router. It'll catch things you may not think about, and can't be easily disabled.

  13. I completely agree with you on all of this. This is the system I'm using and it's helping more than anything I've tried. I use Open DNS

Thank you, I've been trying to research this on my own and haven't arrived at the solution. I do like the idea of accountability, it's worked wonders for me in the past with unrelated matters.

Once I installed pornblocker plugin on Firefox and it was kinda retarded. It would block each page if “porn” word detected, so obviously pornhub was being blocked, but some sites of this forum were blocked either. On the other hand redtube wouldn’t be blocked lol
