I decided to sit down and write a quick essay on this a few days ago. I quickly realized that it could turn into a book. I wanted to write it for a variety of reasons, but mostly because I think that porn-addiction is symptomatic of a society in which men have lost their direction and purpose. I still struggle with my own vices, but in trying to conquer those vices I have learned a lot. Instead of elaborating on each one of these points (and trust me, its very hard not to!), I'll just list them, then perhaps write something additional on each one in the future. Here they are no particular order of importance:

    1. Read...a lot.
    2. Never waste an opportunity to educate yourself.
    3. Take pride in your appearance, including your behavior and speech.
    4. Build your wealth instead of showing it off.
    5. Delay gratification.
    6. Fight your vices.
    7. Exercise.
    8. Learn how to appreciate good art and music (even if you have to force yourself to).
    9. Don't be a douche, and be considerate of others at all times.
    10. Respect women.
    11. Work.

    12. The Greeks had a saying inscribed at the temple of Delphi: Meden Agan. It means "Nothing in Excess." Learn what it really means and apply it gratuitously.

Thanks for sharing this list. I would definitely be interested in reading a more detailed write-up of each. Keep us posted if you're planning to do so. Thanks!

Probably my biggest pet peeve is listening to emo themed heavy metal/rock stuff. Many of my friends listen to up-to-date hip hop, R&B, upbeat stuff that make them feel good. I feel so lost when they start talking about current popular songs ha..

Either than that great list to incorporate into my daily life.

    This is good general advice.

  7. I would add: become the member of 5 am club and spend your first hour of the day like a winner (20/20/20 rule) while the rest of the world is still sleeping.

Well, all I'll say is that if you can passively listen to a song and "get" it, its probably not great music! Maybe good, but not great. I was thinking more along the lines of music that you have to actively engage with while you listen. The stuff that doesn't need words or lyrics to send its message. I never appreciated the great composers of the 16-1800s until I sat down and studied how to actually listen to the music they constructed. And there's plenty of genres like that, especially jazz, gypsy-jazz, the blues, and old time/bluegrass. I tend to stay away from modern pop stuff...
