Ok, so here's something I've never really come to terms with...

When pmoing (I believe more specifically when viewing fresh, new, exciting porn), I sometimes start shaking uncontrollably. It reaches a point where I feel like a heroin junky on cold turkey, that's how intense the shaking, shivering, and trembling gets. Needless to say, even when I feel horny and extremely aroused in these moments, it's really hard to get it up (and make it stay up) when these involuntary whole-body-motions begin. It reminds me of severe withdrawal symptoms in rehab, or someone close to a circulatory collapse, or someone in ice cold water. And of course pumping blood into its manhood is not the body's first choice when it shivers, shakes, and trembles like crazy. But why do I get these symptoms in the midst of consuming the drug?!

I'm wondering if anyone else has ever experienced something similar and can tell me what it means, how this happens, why it happens, and what to do about it. I'm guessing it's got something to do with dopamine but I'm really wondering, am I too far gone?! Is my addiction really that bad? I feel powerless in the face of this. And I can't help but worrying: What if I'm with someone else and my body starts acting up like this? I don't even want to think about it...

  2. I've never had this happen to me, and I've never seen anybody else write about this.

It does sound like a good reason to quit, though.

  3. It's not unheard of. See knee-trembler (sex standing up). I'd guess it's something to do with adrenaline. Continuing to do it for long periods probably isn't good for you though. Also a guess.

    Thank you for your replies.

The question I’ve always had about this is: when this trembling starts, am I touching on something I REALLY enjoy, something which REALLY gets me going, or is this my body telling me to stop what I’m doing asap.

I still haven’t really figured this out, but it’s nice to know it’s not completely unheard of, even though I don’t necessarily think the knee-trembler from sex while standing up is related to this. The knee-trembler sounds more like a tired leg muscle, whereas the phenomenon I’m describing feels more primal, like dopamine or adrenaline (thanks for the hint to adrenaline btw), or even like some emotional issue on a more spiritual level.

Yes I've had this happen to me before if I've been PMOing most of the day and ejaculated several times. I can even get severe asthmatic issues too.

What can I say, it's simply not good for your health in general to PMO constantly no matter what some may say. It harms all aspects of your health from the brain down.

I have exactly the same problem. When I get very aroused my body starts to tremble and it's impossible to get the erection. I first experienced this when I watched some softcore erotic movies in my teen years, also when I tried to have the real sex. I remember once girl asking me if it's so cold in the bedroom. I was never able to overcome this. It has nothing to do with withdrawals, I think it's just a very sensitive nervous system. Some kind of 'short circuit' in the brain coming from extreme over-excitement.

I think it might be that I teached myself to get excited from very mild sexual triggers in my teen years and everytime I experience stronger sexual excitement the brain gets 'short circuited' and it's impossible to maintain the erection. Sometimes premature ejaculation can be caused from your very first sexual experiences when you teach yourself to ejaculate very quickly when masturbating in insecure environment (having the lack of privacy for example). But I must admit that this theory doesn't look very valid for me, I think this over-excitement has more to do with overall brain sensitivity for sexual triggers.

  7. Not unless you are using porn or masturbating while you do it. Sex with wife is what you should be doing.

No, as long as it's mutual and loving sex. If the sex is pornographic, then it's only going to continue the downwards spiral for you and your wife.

Of course it may be a problem if you want to become a celibate :D

  9. If you get an asthma attack with it my bet would be adrenaline. Adrenaline increases blood pressure. Histamine reduces blood pressure and can be released to counteract adrenaline. Histamine can trigger asthma.

@Gota @TenderCrisp Maybe you have essential tremor which can be exacerbated by stressful situations. Stress can be good (roller coaster ride) or bad (being attacked by a goblin).

Very interesting! Thank you for sharing! Good to know there are people out there who experience the exact same thing. I haven't had this happen to me when I'm sexually intimate with someone, though. However, I do have experienced a mild version of this during break-up talks, so that's where my theory comes from that it's got something to do with emotions. But I think your theory about the nervous system sounds logical and appears to be the root cause of this sensation. It seems to be less about the things that cause it on the surface, and all about the nervous system's sensitivity. Very interesting indeed, because I've stumbled upon a number of books and practices concerned with the nervous system lately.

That's a very good point you're making about how stressful experiences can be both "positive" and "negative". When I first seriously picked up meditation and learned it in a weekend seminar they were talking about the same thing. About how watching a beautiful sunset (or something that excites / arouses you) can just as well be registered as stress in the nervous system as "bad" negative stress at work for instance. I find this very interesting and was kind of blown away by that, because normally you'd think stress is only related to pressure, conflict, crisis, etc. They also spoke about how most people run around with overstimulated nervous systems and stored stresses that dramatically impact their lives (and life-spans). So your and @Gota 's replies combined might just be the perfect answer I was looking for. Thank you!

P.S.: About the essential tremor thing: Upon checking your linked summary of this condition I didn't really recognize myself in what they describe there. They say it is closely linked to a kinetic tremor that is most prominent in the head, hands, and one's voice. Plus, they mention as one of the key characteristics that it's a tremor that is exacerbated by activity or movement and eases when the body part is at rest. In my case, however, it's mostly just this one particular PMO setting where it occurs (and only on rare occasions, e.g. when viewing extremely exciting / fresh new porn or, most reliably, while sexting). And it does so on the level of the whole body even though it is physically at rest, not just in particular parts of the body that are being used, such as the head or hands.

Not trying to be rude or offend you, but I really don't see how this relates to the question that my thread is concerned with here. If you don't know how to post a new thread for a separate topic you'd like to discuss, please refer to the forum usage guide. Also, I'm gonna have to ask you to stop harassing me with unsolicited private messages that immediately detail your personal issues without so much as introducing yourself and a getting-to-know you phase. Thank you.

I used to think that it might be related to my social anxiety and stress I experience when getting intimate with someone, but I think it's not the case, because I had exactly the same symptoms when watching porn alone. I just get exited to the point when I'm starting to shake and immediatily loose the erection. The theory about 'positive stress' looks very interesting and logical, never heard about this before. Usually when having body tremor I also experience symptoms like dry mouth, thirst and these are, no doubt, related to the nervous system. I would say that I feel like being under very heavy stress. I doubt it's essential tremor because when I have ordinary stress I rarely get any tremor. And for me the real problem is not the tremor, the problem is not being able to get hard in these situations. This led me to perfomance anxiety and I started to avoid and fear sex.

Bro, You are not alone. I am from India. Myself I have the same problem and I know plenty of Indians post the same shakyhand, shaky neck, ed complaints comments under youtube videos in regional language. I feel shakishakiness all the time (very noticeable when anxious) and consulted a neurologist, he said it is 'essential tremor'...
It was very less when I was on a hard mode stream for 60 days.. we have burnt out our stuff ( according to Indian medicine Ayurveda- semen is what gives men courage and stability ).It has similarities with alcoholism withdrawal but ours is more like parkinsonism as The Neuro plasticity is huge.. The cure for tremor is Creating new positive Neuro plasticity by changchanging life style ( NoFap hard mode for six months). Take 2000 mg fish oil daily, amino acid supplementation for 2 months.. exercise!! All the best.

This happens to me as well when I have not relapsed for a while and then am about to relapse to something that really excites me. It has never caused any performance issues though and if anything the opposite. I never thought much about it and just that my body was getting really over hyped from the rush of dopamine/adrenaline . I could be wrong. Now that I think of it though, I dont like that it happens and Im going to try to take it as a sign that i am about to seriously relapse.

This post describes me the same way.

  17. You always have signaling going to your muscles from the brain, however they are faint signals so they ether have no effect or just keep the muscle in "tone". Stimulants or stimulating experiences increase brain activity and overall signaling strength increases, same signals that kept your muscles in healthy tone, are now much stronger and sometimes trigger contractions, the more overstimulated the brain - the stronger this effect, eventually ending up in full seizure, if taking drugs or brain is unable to calm itself down.

Any strong emotional state, like nervousness, joy or fear stimulate the brain and involuntary shaking presents itself.

Large release of dopamine also suppresses sensation of pain, making many experiences we would normally find uncomfortable - stimulating. Shaking can be unconscious way to increase arousal so pay close attention to that.

This also happens to me. When I relapse after a longer time (7+ days) in the first and second occasion my legs and my whole body starts to shake like crazy. My heart starts to beat fast, and I got an overall anxiety / near panic attack feeling. I think it is connected to adrenaline release. It is also a sign that your brain started to go back to its normal function in the days you abstained from masturbation. But you violently broke this calm regeneration phase with porn use. And we know this is an extreme stimulation to the brain and the adrenaline surge does this.

When I got this shaking I feel like a total heroin addict. It's very absurd. My body "wants the drug" (porn) but my body is so addicted to this, it starts to go crazy. Trembling, shaking, shivering. The first couple days after this are also bad: I'm constantly anxious and sometimes I have a panic attack (this is new to me, I never had a panic attacks before). But after 3-4 calm days without PMO, my body goes back to normal, and the anxiety disappears!!

Basically this is a sign that we are addicts. The only solution is to abstain form porn consumption for a long period of time. We all know this. Keep going brothers!

Don't give in. Start your journey of no PMO and it'll go away. I've been there and I can say it the trembling was the exciment vs. the thought that I knew I shouldn't do it.
