So I've read thread after thread about people going in headlong and relapsing after a week or two. I'm so bad I'm lucky to make it several days. So here's my plan:

I'm going to try to resist PMO of course, but for a a couple of weeks if I end up doing it I'll stick to the most mild thing possible and not beat myself up about it.

In the meantime I'm going to arm myself with everything that I've read here and elsewhere about. I'm not looking at it as quitting porn...for a while I'm looking at it as exercising, getting enough sleep, and perhaps a little meditation for a couple minutes a day. I realize that you HAVE to get into the habit of those things if you want to win against the pmo cycle.

So I'm going to work on building up mental strength elsewhere and train my brain like I would train my body for a marathon. Right now I'm only training, not forcing it to attempt a marathon.

I also realized just how big of a role being stressed or bored plays. Thinking about quitting is stressful, which ultimately saps your mental strength to resist giving in. So F it for now, I'll keep away but I'm not going to beat myself up if I give in. Eventually I'll schedule the date for my 'marathon', once the changes I make become less dreadful and more like habits.

You can't win this fight unless you're ready for it, so I guess it makes sense to prepare if that's what you really need to do. But I hope you'll forgive me if I say that all sounds like you're already rationalizing your first relapse (if not more). Anyway, I hope it works out for you. Good luck!

Your brain is not a muscle. If you continue treat it like that, you will not benefit from your intentions. There are certain similarities to strength training, which have to do with the embedding of repetitive thinking and behavoir. But This is only a small aspect.

Like my forerunner said: you got to be ready for it. And that doesn't necessarily mean that you have built up a lot of muscle strength. It can also mean: You are awakening, and impersonally questioning your own behavoir.

  4. Have to say that I agree with The Eleven and Breaking Fap.

You have identified your 2 major triggers. This is good!!

Now it is your choice how you respond to these feelings and these emotions:

You can rationalise that you will have to PMO when they arise at some point.

Or you can make a make a plan to do a fulfilling activity when these feelings and emotions arise.

    I say this from experience.

You are not comfortable with discomfort - take cold showers! They will liberate your mind my friend :)

You've got all the right ingredients here - saying you'll cut out all P might sound too hard but you can do it. I think you have the right motivation already.
