What to do When Coming Home Tired From Work

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, May 15, 2019.

  1. Hi guys. So after coming in from work today I relapsed pretty easily. I didn't muster up any will power to do anything else. Some days are fine for me to forego the urge but what should I do when it feels like a relapse is imminent, especially when I honestly don't feel like changing my environment?

    How about just dropping off your things and then immediately going for a relaxing walk, and on the way motivating yourself?

    I have yet to do this myself but that is the best suggestion i have for you

  6. The last two days, I've gotten home and slept for 2-2.5 hours as soon as I got home from work. It made getting to sleep at night harder but it seems to have been what my body/brain wanted. I've felt a lot better; I'm beginning to think that recovery work in general involves allowing yourself rest etc. when you need it, at least initially. I'm sure there's all manner of stuff happening behind the scenes in ones' brain in the initial stages of abstinence, perhaps the fatigue's a cue to let it do some work. I haven't felt fatigued at all tonight, and will be aiming for 8 uninterrupted hours.

    You can do this:

    1. Take a walk or make a sport, for example running. Belive me, you feel much better after you run;

    2. Take a cold shower;

    3. Read a book;

    4. Spend time with your family.

    Be strong, keep up the good work!

    Hey brother when ive been really stressed i have to come home after work and take a nap. I try not to sleep to long to mess up the nights sleep but sometimes you just need to rest to calm your mind. Another thing i do latly to take my mind off things is just watching funny videos online. I like impractical jokes show. Good luck on your journey

  9. I know exactly what you're going through.

    When I started this difficult journey early last year, getting home from work was one of my downfalls. What I started doing was make up in my mind what I was going to do away from the house after work and force myself to do it, no matter how tired I was. I knew that going straight home would end up being a stumble.

    The activity could be as simple as taking a long walk at the marina across town from my house. Or going to a museum in another city. There was always something I could find to do.

    There was a period of time where I knew I couldn't go straight home before doing some sort of constructive activity. The mini-victory of kicking myself in the butt like that even though I was tired was a great help in not giving in when I did get. home.

    That particular trigger isn't an issue anymore. The big issues now are loneliness, frustration with several life circumstances, and depression. I'm learning constantly how to handle these negative emotions without turning to PMO.

    Best wishes to you!

  10. Thanks for the responses guys. I did take a shower for a bit and it did help. Afterwards I took a nap. Looks like it helped me this time. I might continue to do this for myself.

    The thing is, I always notice the my weak areas and my common relapse days but never looked into what to do about them. I'm happy to know that showering is a solution to stave off the urge while being relaxed.
