I've been addicted for about 19 years now. I want to hear from people who've been addicted for 10+ years. How have you progressed? What methods did you use? What have you learned? If you've overcome your addiction how do you feel? Also how long did it take?

Dabbled before puberty then stopped. Started again in High school on and off and then became worse the last six year of my life. At least addicted as long as you and probably a few years more. Honestly, the PAWS symptoms I got over in about five to six months on hard mode which I suggest everybody does. Masturbation has been eliminated for seven months solid now. The problem is I still like to watch porn. I am having trouble with the part of finding another activity to take its place.

I commend your resilience brother. The struggle is so hard man, yet it isn't insurmountable. I honestly wish U never saw the stuff.

  5. I was an active addict for 25 years (ages 15-40). I have been in active recovery for the last six years. My best streak was 18 months with no P. I am now at over 250 days with no PM (O only with my wife), and I am working on 30 days of absolutely no P-subs of any kind.

I'll link you to my "Day 200" post that sums up the journey so far. https://www.nofap.com/forum/index.php?threads/day-200.223536/

Hope that is helpful! If I can address anything else specifically, feel free to reach out any time.

Duration: I consider myself addicted to PMO for about 17 years and had problems with too much MB since the puberty. Excessive MB worsened with unlimited internet access around year 2000.
Progression: It went from PMOing few times a week to multiple binge sessions per day. I needed weirder and weirder videos to turn me on. "Normal" stuff became unexciting and boring. Needless to say, I developed PIED down the road.
Lessons learned: Lots of them, but the most important is probably that PMO was just my "drug of choice", to numb myself and escape negative emotions/anxiety instead of facing underlying issues (low self-esteem, depression, social and general anxiety).
Have you overcome addiction?: I'm still work in progress. I completed couple of 90 days "hardmode" reboots and last one lasting around 200 days, but they all ended up in full blown relapse followed by the time period of escalated compulsive PMO behavior. I've learned that I have to address my underlying psych issues if I want to get rid of this compulsive addictive behavior. Abstention is only first step on the path to recovery. I've given up on all or nothing mentality, we're only humans and humans make mistakes. I don't think of recovery as a challenge anymore more like a long journey. I might stumble, slip or even relapse in some point of time, but as long as I learn from mistakes and continue with recovery immediately, I'm progressing into the right direction. Here's the link to my journey and the 6(7)steps program I try to follow. https://www.nofap.com/forum/index.php?threads/hopeless-case-searching-for-hope.187822/

I really like this quote from fellow Fapstronaut. It took me long time to understand what he really meant.
We have to change the way we think and live if we want to overcome this problem.

I first discovered nofap when I was 16-17 so that's 6 years of me attempting to quit Porn and my best streak only being two weeks. Since starting nofap my addiction has probably gotten worse because I would go a few days without then binge on porn achieving nothing. I hit rock bottom once I left school at 18. For about a year I had no job, cut myself off from my friends and would shut myself in and play video games all day. I could not make it a whole day without watching porn during this period. I had to go on anti-depressants so I could leave my house. It's only in the past year or so that I feel at 23 that my life is finally on track, but I am still not having much success at quitting porn. Wasting so many years of my youth spent doing nothing and not even having a relationship with a girl used to tear me up inside, but now all I think about is how I can achieve my goal.

Ironically, enough despite not even making it over a week on my average attempts over the past couple of months I have never been so optimistic that I will overcome this addiction because my own understanding has improved and I just need to execute my plans and will be free in a few months time, of this I am certain.

I've been addicted for about 11-12 years. My progression as far as tastes go, I rarely get into the heavy stuff. I never feel the need to. The novelty of a new girl with just the right look in just the right "situation" has always been enough for me. As far as the addiction side of it, for me it's cyclical. I get hooked for a month or more and then I'm able to break away for a week or to. I notice my longer streaks came when I wasn't focused on quitting. You know, the whole don't think about a pink elephant thing.
My longest streak is about 4 months. Once I got past my flatline in month 2, I felt amazing. My goal is to get back there again and beyond.

I have given myself a severe case of PIED because of this. I started making very good progress getting into flatline the last month. The fantasizing went down a lot when not watching porn. I wish Inbever started watching it either because it truly messes your head up. I know I will make better progress in the next few months..

I'm on Day 70 of re-booth. Really I'm not thinking of going back. I believe I've buried the habit. And I believe I'd get better as I make progress
