Here's a question I've bounced around for a little while:
Say you have looked up erotic content for 2 hours, but didn't masturbate or at least not orgasm. Is it better at that point to masturbate to orgasm and release the built up dopamine in your brain?

No. Don't worry, you won't explode.

Ha, I know that I won't explode. This has come up fairly recently, since now I will often stop myself once I start looking up erotic things.
I read something recently on here that said for edging (masturbating for a long time and keeping yourself just short of orgasm), it is better to finish and get the flood of dopamine out of your brain instead of letting it wallow around there for a while. Obviously it's better to not go there in the first place, but I was curious at this point.
I haven't done any testing of my own and don't plan to

Oh, well, you didn't mention edging in your first post. Yeah, edging causes a whole range of other problems, so there is a side to say finishing it. But when it comes to just looking, I don't think that causes that much dopamine, certainly it doesn't cause those negative edging side-effects.

Tbh it sounds like youre looking for an excuse to relapse. Your mind will play tricks on you

My original question wasn't really about edging, but it's kinda related. I wasn't asking from a "current activity" stance. What do you mean when you say just looking doesn't release that much dopamine? I thought that's a big reason it's addictive

I know how that is for sure. "Oh I'll just do ___, I won't go THAT far."
To me, purposely looking at erotic content would already be a relapse, but obviously I wouldn't want to continue it by masturbating too.
This post was purely out of curiosity though, I wasn't currently facing the problem that I asked about

  8. P is the poison. MO makes sure it gets straight into your heart. If you view P, do not MO under any circumstances. The two together are a potent cocktail that keeps you addicted.

Drop P no matter what it takes. Drop MO, whatever the cost. Get free and stay free!

    I figured that.
Oh it is, but dopamine isn't released just from PMOing. Anything that gives you pleasure releases dopamine. So why are we addicted to PMO? Because it releases more dopamine than we know how to handle. I believe, though, that P by itself releases less dopamine.
