I see a lot of guys on here doing what I've always done on this site which is pushing an agenda of porn in moderation. In my opinion, this isn't done maliciously. It's just a way to externalize your thoughts--nothing more.

However, it's DEFINITELY a false rationalization/justification. I'm man enough to admit I was wrong before about it. If you're a porn addict then you're a porn addict for life. And, in fact, life is so much tougher BECAUSE YOU KEEP GOING BACK AND FORTH on your decision--constantly doubting your decision to abstain because of horniness.

I've heard most alcohol addicts need 7-9 times of trying to quit before it sticks and that's been my experience with it to get to this point. It sucks. It really sucks. But, you realize you only have two options: quit or don't. Moderation is not an option--just a delay.

  2. So true. First, you think it's a bad habit. Then you realize, to your horror, it's an addiction. No room for moderation. All or nothing.

Truth. Moderation is a self deception. It's the illusion of control. An addict will try to moderate, but in a short time will give themselves back to the addiction completely.

If you're saying that porn addicts will still be addicts for life, you're completely wrong.

Just check out the "success stories" section.

Complete abstinence is the only way to arrest the addiction.

I wouldn't go as far as saying once an porn addict, always an addict. The funny thing is, porn has stopped being exciting for me after 5-6 months of monk mode. I started to see it as what it really is, an illusion, LCD/OLED pixels changing colors in front of my eyes. I'm not saying you can do it in moderation, because I certainly couldn't, all I'm saying is that porn loses appeal after long abstention from any sexual activity. You can switch between TV channels and you won't have the need to stop at adult channel, visit pornhub or any other erotic site anymore. If you happen to go there, it will be so boring you'll close it or forget you have even opened it. With that being said, I know if I started MO again I'd soon be pulled back into binge PMO rabbit hole. So yeah MO is a thing I'm banned from doing for life and porn is just not interesting without MO component. I can live with that.

You keep on trying and trying and one day you just do it. I needed to hit rock bottom (lost of father, partner, job all at once) to get serious and just stop. I abstained for 6 months and relapsed, binged the the hell out of it and returned to my current streak after 3-4 months. Last relapse has thought me that abstention is just that, abstention. No matter how long you abstain, you're still an addict if you don't radically change your lifestyle in order to be able to face and address underlying psych issues that pulled you into PMO behavior in the first place. If you don't to that, you'll relapse sooner or later when life gets rough. I listened and learned from former drug and alcohol addicts (YT -> Ryan Donnelly, Tim Johnson). We're not that different. The only difference is our drug of choice. Our (PMO) is socially acceptable and their isn't. Path to successful recovery is the same. With that being said, I'm still work in progress, no where near full recovery.
