Porn is the real problem, not fapping

If you just quickly fapped under the shower once a week for 1 minute, that wouldn't really affect you much at all.

On my current streak, I haven't fapped for 7 days. However, for the past 4 days I still watched a ton of porn.

And every day when I was done watching (cause I had to go to sleep, otherwise how could you stop watching), I felt just as foggy, unmotivated and miserable as if I had relapsed.

Well, in fact I did relapse. On porn, if not fapping itself. The cumming part is actually pretty meaningless. The bathing of our brains in dopamine occurs during the watching (or even thinking about watching it) anyway, you don't have to touch anything. I can actually feel my mood shifting from upbeat to grim within 15 minutes of opening porn tabs. It's as if a dense fog descends on my mind.

And besides, it's all this lost time that is felt the most. I had so many plans for these 4 days. I did none of that cause I just watched porn all the time. So many days lost that could be spent learning and creating, furthering your goals.

It's funny cause I'm so addicted to porn, I actually have muscle memory in my fingers for quickly opening new tabs to my favourite porn sites. I'd catch myself thinking about something random, not porn related, and my left hand would subconsciously open a new tab and start typing the address. Then I'd be like "oh shit!! what am I doing" and quickly close the tab. Pretty hilarious stuff.

Well yeah porn still stimulates your dopamine pathways. If you want to quit you need to let them heal

  3. Even a split second of thinking about porn actually starts very complex processes in our brain and body for the purpose of motivating you to go ahead and finish with Cumming. An innocent second look at a curvy woman has already started a complex process including the release of chemicals, the rise in blood pressure etc for the purpose of fapping. Things became a lot easier when I realised that. You should also know that, by allowing these thought for even a few more seconds you have allowed yourself to relapse already.

When you get split seconds porn thoughts, fight those thoughts with all distractions you can find because it a few seconds from the point of no return and a relapse.

    Nice observation

  6. No that's something else. It's not the porn itself, but the mindless way you access it. When urges hit you no longer think about what you are doing, you click a few times like a robot and get to the porn page, then mindlessly watch plenty of videos until you are satisfied. Same thing can occur by watching Youtube too much, but porn simulates better dopamine and serotonin in your brain, plus there is the guilt afterwards.

I recommend you stay away from porn(obviously) and try some mindful exercises such as meditation or reading. Start small, get better and next time an urge hits you will be more aware of it and fight it better.

Masturbation is abnormal and bad. Masturbating to porn is just worse.

Porn is 100% the killer. Back before it was at our fingertips, these problems weren’t as prevalent. While I still feel that MO also causes problems, doing it once a week just to release wouldn’t be as bad as watching Porn once a week (even without MO) IMO.

    Yeah you're completely right.

I did an experiment before (on myself ofc lol)

I watched porn for 30mins (without masturbating). I just sat there and watched it. and afterwards, I felt awful. all of the PMO affects were there, even though I hadn't MOd.
I masturbated without porn. felt fine. no negative effects.

Obviously it is nice to be able to be completely PMO free, but P is the real demon here. you can tell this because on the journey your brain is always craving the porn, not the masturbation. my brain gives me urges about specific scenes, girls, sites, thumbnails. you name it, I got it. its the novelty and dopamine in porn that causes all the issues.

that is why masturbation can be okay when trying to quit porn (depending on the individual). but ultimately both are unnatural and we would like to quit both. most of us have completely linked P with M so it is hard to separate the two.

I think those who are starting out, if they encounter abnormal difficulties, may MO in the beginning, but later I would find it better to stop MO too, for a full recovery

tbh I think PM are synonmyous

but not using porn(including just regular pics of half naked women) is the goal

Actually, porn itself is usually a symptom of the real problem beneath. It is just a rational, logical coping strategy

The only good argument I have read for no MO while recovering from PMO addiction is that if you are severely addicted to porn you would remember it while masturbating and so you will reinforce your addiction not allowing it to fade.

I am not sure whether it is true. In any case, for me the flatline hits so hard that it removes 95% of the MO without trying when the P is gone.

  16. I was masturbating habitually when I was really young. Then, I found porn. What a deadly combination.
I have found quitting porn easier than fully quitting masturbation.
Masturbation habitually (for me, it is beyond that, it is an addiction) keeps men in a terminal stage of boyhood.
Sure, it is normal. For a period. Like when you are 9 or 10 to about 14. If you can't drop it by then, I'd say you got one serious problem. How I wish I'd had the brains to quit it when I was a young man. I am convinced my life would've turned out much differently.

Masturbating for one minute is a very harmful practice, as very negatively affects your sexual performance. I would suggest not masturbating ever, as I see it as an unnatural behavior, but masturbating for one minute or similarly short amounts of time is even more harmful.
