    Hi there,

I have just joined your noFap group today. Having looked at a few posts, I think I'm in the right place! I am 38 year old male, no gf. I have been struggling with this issue for as long as I can remember - at least 20 years. My current focus is to try to remove all access to porn. It may be a little ambitious to go for noFap at the same time. In terms of what I have tried so far:

I started with the "stayfocused" app. But after a day or two of noFap I would simply disable the app using the Chrome Extensions. So I very quickly learnt to just disable the app every time. Then I turned to the "Freedom.to" app. This can be set up so it can only be disabled at certain times of the day. The only problem is that it does not work with the iphone. So for the last month or two, my bad habits have just moved over from the laptop to my iphone.

Unfortunately, iphones do not allow apps that block internet access. So now I am thinking of buying myself an android phone and switching over to that. I can't throw away my iphone, so maybe I will put it in a locked safe or something...? Sorry for all the detail - I hope I am barking up the right tree here... Any thoughts welcome! Thanks.

While blocking apps can be a help when dealing with sudden and overpowering urges -- I'm experimenting with one myself -- they aren't a substitute for commitment, since you're always going to be able to get around them.

I know where you're at -- like you, when I first came here, I could go maybe two days without masturbating to porn and then I was right back to it, whatever my intentions. For this reason, I think it would be best to commit not just to not watching porn, but to refraining from masturbation and orgasm for a period of time -- 30 days, say. I've done that for about three weeks, and I've lost my interest in porn. It was really tough for the first couple of weeks -- I was amazingly horny -- but now it's calmed down (some say it took them more than a month). The urges are mild and easily controlled. If there were a reason to do this forever, I think I could.

As it happens, I don't plan to refrain from masturbation and orgasm forever. But I think that this puts me in a position to reject porn, and I think that without the artificial stimulation of the porn, I won't be so damn horny all the time and masturbating even when I'm not horny and know that the orgasm will be disappointing. Time will tell, but I can say that so far it's working for me.

So that would be my suggestion -- go PMO and make a commitment in the commitment thread (I think it really helps to make a promise). Then, when you're past the worst, I think porn will be less of a temptation, as long as you don't go off the wagon and get hooked again.

Apps won't be that effective coz at the time of strong urges, you'll always find a way around them.
But there is an app that I use called Accountablity2You which doesn't block any porn websites but sends a report of any explicit website that you've been to on your laptop or phone to your designated accountability partner. They will be able to see everything cataloged that you've watched. It helps me a lot. As you don't want anyone to know the weird fetishes you've developed due to excessive porn use.
But as the above guy mentioned self-commitment is necessary for this NoFap journey.

  5. I relate to your battle with tech to keep you on the right track. I have gone for boughts were I stay offline for a month just to double down later. I'm having to watch myself. I've been frequenting this site and r/nofap a lot and I'm afraid I'll be right back to jacking off to internet porn instead of working on eating out with a friend, exercising, or figuring out how to get a girlfriend so I don't have to spend every night alone. Good luck.

I am kindof new to this forum, but I think people may be thinking about it wrong. It seems we are expected to immediately cut out all porn and fapping. And then when people slip up, they beat themselves up over it.

I am going to allow myself to fap, but cut out the porn. I tried it today and the fapping was less enjoyable without porn, but it got me through the day. I am aiming for one week of no porn, and then review. I want to give myself some smaller "wins" first, rather than going for 100% cut out and then just feel useless when I don't succeed.

  7. Heyyy welcome to the NoFap forum : ) It's nice to see you here fighting the good fight alongside us!

    Here is just some advice:

First and foremost please take a look at each section in the forum, there might be something(s) you may find of big help to you. Feel free to post there :+)

Then secondly I just strongly advise you to be active on your profile(as there quite a few active people in the profile section). Please start by choosing an avatar and then make daily status posts to show you're active and needing support/encouragement. They've also got a neat little feature that shows freshly posted statuses for all users to see. People will find your profile and give you encouragement/support.

People (are beginning to) love communicating in the profile section..(it should be and is )mostly spportive talk but it doesn't hurt to deviate from supportive talk. It would be great to have you join in and support others in the threads, profiles, and journal, we could always use your help and in return you shall receive some as well!

Thirdly, You should also highly consider creating a public journal and write about your days in more depth for us members to follow along your journey and offer support to you by way of posting in your journal.

Last but not least: Good luck on your journey here, make sure to really give it a try with all your heart!
