Hello guys. I am a PMO addict and I think it's enormously affecting my brain health. I lack concentration, can't read for at least 5 mins straight before distracting myself with something unimportant, and my memory is so bad I sometimes think I have Alzheimer's. I didn't use to be like that... I was a very savvy person, but now i'm kind of slow and lethargic. Does this have to do with pornography addiction and excessive masturbation? I had read a post that said that porn can make you dumb, but I didn't believe at first. But is it true?

Yes and no. Scientifically I don’t think it’s been proven, but anecdotally it seems there’s some truth over it.

PMO is a symptom of depression, it is a coping mechanism that helps you run away from pain. pmo per se may not be the source of your troubles, rather the depression and the thoughts that, unconsciously, you are running away from, the painful emotions.

I stopped pmo a while ago, had a relapse, but also addressed the depression at the same time and, yes, I can see improvements in memory and mental acuity, way way above what i had in the prior months.

At the beginning I did this exercise:

Then i went into journaling a lot:

Once I got my mind more aware of the emotions I feel and to better interpret what happened during the day, I now moved into exercising. And I see improvements, it’s easier to hold a thought and to make a decision, much easier to self motivate. It’s not always easy, ups and, but surely way better than when using PMO as a coping mechanism for my emotional pain, for my numbing.

  4. Yes. It is.

It’s not so much the pmo, it’s how pmo retrains your brain and prunes the synapses that are not needed to become more efficient. You lose some recall (not memory) with this process naturally. Pmo use accelerates this process.

    Good question! I'm not sure.

A lot of things can lead to the symptoms you're describing:
    - stress over an extended period of time,
    - lack of sleep,
    - depression...
So it's difficult to single out a main contributor.

But now, I'm convinced that in these cases, PMO becomes dangerous self-medication:
something that brings short term stress-relief but at the same time prevents from understanding the real root causes and from finding long-lasting solutions.
