Fantasies - How Do You Stop Them?

  1. I have been trying to reboot for quite some time now and I’ve almost completely eliminated porn from my life but no matter what I do my minds keeps drifting into imagining sexual fantasies during the day. I try not to dwell on them but they still pop up from time to time. This makes me concerned because I’ve heard than fantasizing hurts the recovery process. So I would like to know how to stop. Did anyone have the same problem that I did and managed to solve it?

Well i think there is no real solution. Deal with it and still don't PMO.
Of course during the day you can start to take actions in sport, reading,...but if you go to sleep or waking up in the morning there are often still these fantasies.

I recognized during my streaks, that if you avoid willingly any triggers (Facebook, Social Media, erotic stories,...), it becomes really easier. Humans are determined by habits.

  3. There's no real solution perhaps, but you can notice that a fantasy has started, recognise that it could get you into trouble, and then think about or do something else.

Even very "innocent" fantasies can be problematic if you spend ages thinking about them.

That's my opinion anyway. Good luck.

Then you're already doing it right. Sit and watch the traffic, but don't go running after vehicles to try to stop them.

    It happens.
    Mind wandering (task unrelated thought),
    intrusive (sexual) thoughts,
    (task-irrelevant) rumination.

I'd put it in the same category as P:
    Can't avoid it,
they just pop out from nowhere.
Deal with them as they come.

It's like a DDoS attack on the brain.
I'd give it 5 sec. to get it off my mind.
Rinse & repeat. Every single time.
There's also CBT, mindfulness, breathing exercises, etc.

    Hope that helps.

  6. Don't actively try to push thoughts away, but rather replace with them with things you genuinely enjoy.
