  1. Do we choose God or did God choose us?

Monergism is the view within Christian theology which holds that God works through the Holy Spirit to bring about the salvation of an individual through spiritual regeneration, regardless of the individual's cooperation. It is most often associated with the Reformed tradition (such as Presbyterianism, Anglicanism and the Dutch Reformed Church) and its doctrine of irresistible grace, and particularly with historical doctrinal differences between Calvinism and Arminianism.[2] This position contrasts with Arminian synergism, the belief that God and individuals cooperate to bring individuals salvation.

  2. Scripture seems to give examples of both occurring, don't you think? Saul's conversion on the Damascus road may be one of the greatest examples of Monergism we have. The counter-examples of more "synergistic" conversions abound. Perhaps God does not confine himself to the neat little boxes we have come up with? :)

  3. Did you know that is what was stated by pastor Rick Warren? He holds to both views. I think it has to be one way or the other but I wouldnt be surprised to learn I'm wrong about most things when I get to heaven.

  4. I think that will be the experience of all of us! I know Christ without a shadow of doubt -- everything else is a bit murky! :)

I believe we chose each other, but in terms of who chose first, I’m thinking God chose us first. Otherwise, if God didn’t choose us to play at least some role in His plan then I doubt we’d even exist.

even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love

I believe there's more than one God and all the Gods are fighting over us. T
I don't think the world wouldn't be the way it if there was just one God.

  9. I think you have it correct Mcmarty.

Although I would say God describes himself as a groom selecting a bride. In this metaphor he chooses then we choose.

There is no creation that can tell its creator they start the relationship prior to its creator towards them without being delusional. In Jeremiah. God makes fun of those creations who do that : “does the pot complain to the potter?”

Just like God makes fun of those who go to the idols of stone and ask that they save them.

    Creator trumps creation.
We aren’t forced to bow the knee , we are asked.

We aren’t forced to marry, we are asked to marry. Being asked means we choose second. He chose first. Every time.

  10. I think he chose every single one of us. But we have the power to say no to Him because we have free will. Many people will die and go to hell, not because of God not choosing them, but because they didn't say yes to Jesus.

  12. I think your poll is phrased strangely... I do believe we have to choose to accept Jesus as our Savior, but that doesn't mean God is "submissive" and no longer allpowerful. If God were incapable of saving all of us, then yes, He would not be all-powerful. But He is absolutely capable of doing that. Just because He has chosen to do things differently does not mean He is no longer powerful.

God did choose us, in the sense that he sent His son to die for all of us, while we were still sinners. But He also allows us to make our own choices, one if which being whether or not we will accept our need for a Savior.

  13. I think that's a beautiful way of describing it.

So then, I think the answer to the simplified question would be "both." We choose each other. It's a two-way street.

Since God wants everyone to be saved he has already chosen us but not everyone chooses God thats way in the Bible Jesus says the road to hell is wide because many take that path and the roaf to salvation which is God is narrow because chose to take it
