What are the main meaning of orgasm ?

I have spent a lot of time wondering along the same lines: what does orgasm represent? Usually I come up with "bliss," "fusion," or some kind of momentary "transcendence." I read somewhere recently someone's contention that it is ejaculation that we are addicted to. On the one hand, that sounds like a no brainer, but that would also be saying that porn and masturbation (P and M) are simply the vehicles to O. Over the summer I found this book, "Erotism: Death and Sensuality," by Georges Bataille. It's over my head, but it seems to be saying that it has something to do with our terror of our own mortality and somehow finding escape in sex and eroticism. He's on to something.
Because otherwise, it's hard for me to accept that this is the dominating force of my life when there is so much to live for, so much to be done for myself and the world. And I've made life into a struggle around jerking off! Anyway, great question that you have raised. There's also a writer named Jeffery Kripal who connects mysticism with eroticism.
