Hi, new guy here just checking things out. :) I am 31, single guy from UK.

I have been aware of NoFap for a few years but never thought anything of it.
I assumed it was just for guys who had a porn/masturbation problem, neither of which are the case for me.
I decided to take a closer look last month when an acquaintance told me about the mood and energy boosting effects he had experienced on NoFap.

I have suffered from depression since I was 16 and in recent years have felt my energy levels slipping away and my general zest for life disappearing quite severely.

I've also noticed that I tend to masturbate more when going through a bad patch as it helps me fall asleep, which is great when you feel so crappy you don't want to get out of bed for several days at a time!
It has become a habitual thing that I do to pacify myself rather than something I actively enjoy. The same is true for sex, to some extent. It doesn't really excite me or interest me anymore.
I have very little interest in people, which I've been telling myself is good because nobody seems to be interested in me either.
The feeling of emptiness and indifference has taken over my entire life and there is very little I actively look forward to or take pleasure in anymore.

My hope is that by trying NoFap I might experience the same mood boosting / energising benefits many other men have experienced.
The last 5 year in particular have been very bleak and depressing and I'm willing to try just about anything to get out of that dark place!
    Cheers

Hi Theo3, welcome here, and wishing you loads of strength to battle your depressions. I can heartily recommend NoFap, as this helps many folks out here to improve their mood and energy levels. That being said, depressions can have many causes, and I do hope you also have further (professional) help to battle this. Hope this community and NoFap can be of help to you as well, though!

Hi, yes you are right depression is a complex and difficult thing that I am using a number of different tools to combat. NoFap being one of them. Like a lot of people I have taken antidepressants in the past and found the side effects unpleasant. Counselling and group talking has really helped, as has a change in career to something I find more personally fulfilling. Despite that I still struggle with low energy levels and a general feeling of emptiness, which makes continuing to take positive steps forward more difficult. Likewise my self image is something I need to work on building up as other people seem to think of me far more positively than I do. This is the main part of what I want to achieve for myself, as I’ve never really struggled with PMO, it’s more the general sense of self worth and energy to get things done that I have to battle with. Thanks all.

I got arrested twice, kicked out of school, moved back home, and lost all my friends. I’m lucky to have my family, but I have a good idea about loneliness and depression. Each situation is unique, but here are some things to try/think about:

If you are alone and lack energy, read a book. It doesn’t require much energy and it takes you to a different place.

Meditation is extremely powerful. Learn to look at yourself honestly. Sit with your uncomfortable feelings. Sit with the boredom and don’t struggle to change what you can’t.

Most importantly, find someone to talk to. Therapy is great. If that doesn’t work then find a close friend or family member. If not that then come here. Someone will always be willing to listen. Life is exciting/life is boring. Life is happy/life is sad. Life is love/life is hate. There’s two sides to the every situation, but they are both true. Don’t worry about finding one side of the coin, because you can’t avoid the other, whichever side that may be.

  6. Heyyy welcome to the NoFap forum : ) It's nice to see you here fighting the good fight alongside us!

    Here is just some advice:

First and foremost please take a look at each section in the forum, there might be something(s) you may find of big help to you. Feel free to post there :+)

Then secondly I just strongly advise you to be active on your profile(as there quite a few active people in the profile section). Please start by choosing an avatar and then make daily status posts to show you're active and needing support/encouragement. They've also got a neat little feature that shows freshly posted statuses for all users to see. People will find your profile and give you encouragement/support.

People (are beginning to) love communicating in the profilesection..(it should be and is )mostly spportive talk but it doesn't hurt to deviate from supportive talk. It would be great to have you join in and support others in the threads, profiles, and journal. Make sure and be grateful for the help you received and help after receiving some. Invest in some people's journeys. We could always use your help and in return you shall receive some as well!

Thirdly, You should also highly consider creating a public journal and write about your days in more depth for us members to follow along your journey and offer support to you by way of posting in your journal.

Last but not least: Good luck on your journey here, make sure to really give it a try with all your heart!
