Living My Best Life Challenge

Discussion in 'Self Improvement' started by Deleted Account, Sep 24, 2019.

  1. Next week I'm going to be doing a challenge in which I attempt to sort of "live my best life." In other words, I'm going to be living by a certain set of "rules" which I will list below, for a week, just to see what life would feel like if I could be that productive and have good healthy habits all the time. I don't expect to be able to live like this every single day of my life, but I thought it would be fun to do this challenge for a week, and then maybe it will continue and some of the habits will stick, once I see how good they feel.

So these are my rules for myself. Keep in mind that these are personal, and you have no obligation to agree with them or make them your own, but please try to refrain from criticizing. Everyone has a different path in life. I personally find it hard to balance being too strict with myself and that often causes a lot of stress and depression for me, so I'm trying to have good habits while also not pushing myself too hard and reminding myself that I'm human and I'm allowed to have some fun and enjoy myself as well.

Feel free to join in my challenge if you want! I'll be starting officially on Sunday and ending the following Saturday. Here are my rules:

    * in the morning, if I check social media, I will only check and respond to direct notifications. No scrolling through forums or Twitter or Instagram or Facebook. Just check notifications, and leave.
*in the morning, I will read at least one chapter of whatever book I choose in the Bible and spend some brief time in prayer
    * light morning stretches for 10-15 minutes
    * writing for 20-30 minutes in the morning before work
    * healthy breakfast, vitamins, water
*only one can of soda per day, with dinner
    * minimal snacking after dinner, and make sure it's healthy
    * healthy lunch at work
    * drink at least 3 or 4 bottles/glasses of water per day
    * if I want some kind of "dessert," make it something like cereal instead of cake, and only one dessert-type item per day
    * listen to one sermon per day during work
    * read at least a chapter of a book each evening, if not more
    * do some sort of exercise each day (go to the gym or work out at home)
    * and the obvious, NO PMO!

That's all I got so far. I might adapt some things in the future. And this is mostly my plan for work days. Things might look a little different on weekends.

I'm doing this for a vlog, but I thought it would be fun to update my thoughts here as well :)

  2. Also, if anyone has any ideas for their own goals if they were to do a challenge like this, I'd love to hear them! Perhaps they will motivate me or give me some new ideas :)

    Great routine there!

If I may add some specifics:

    * Do not even check your notifications when you wake up. Set up your phone on the other side of the room you are sleeping in, so that you HAVE to stand up to go switch off the alarm.
Then stretch yourself / bathroom time, and then you can do your breathing/movement routine. That way you completely focus on yourself for the beginning of your day which is the most important.
Also regarding the routine, I did not see it, but did you do your bed? Super important to tidy your room so that there is no cluster in your mind as well.

    * One soda can every two days maybe? That's the personal trainer talking right now haha

    * And also some form of visualisation/ positive affirmation in the morning, mixed with your prayers, would be super powerful!

  4. Nah, I'm not interested in that. I know myself, and I like to get that out of the way in the morning so I can move on and focus on other things.

That's not going to happen either. As I said, I am not trying to push myself too hard. Right now I generally have 2-3 cans of soda a day. Cutting down to one a day is already hard, and I don't feel the need to deprive myself of something I enjoy.

    Thanks for the suggestions though

So, indeed, it is a great progress.

Keep this discipline and you will have massive positive changes.

You are indeed right, it has widely been reported that we have a genetic set limit per day of how many good decisions we can take. Trying to change a habit/doing something new is one that will expend points. Overdoing it will lead to destructive thoughts because you didn't meet the goals (often unrealistic) set by yourself. This is why people recommend just changing at max 1-2 things at a time for at least 21 days until there is a greater likelihood of it solidifying into a habit. Great people do not necessarily do more than us, but they certainly have better habits.

Nice challenge! Mind if I join? @Castielle

I need to desperately put an end to my unhealthy, unproductive habits and stick to a healthy routine.

    Wake up (Morning Routine)
Don't look at phone! Get straight out of bed.
    Say my prayers
    Take cold shower
    Meditate for 5 min

    Get out of the house
Go to library, try to be productive. Limit social media and youtube as much as I can.

    Night routine
    Workout
    Take cold shower
    Meditate
TURN OFF PHONE AN HOUR BEFORE BED
Read book til I fall asleep

  8. Sounds awesome, man! I'm happy to have you join ^_^

May i know the goal of such strict rules??

  11. I specifically said in the original post not to criticize other people's goals. You are welcome to post your own goals, but leave mine alone. This isn't meant to be "work," and no, using social media is nothing like watching porn.

I thought I explained it already, but I guess maybe not. I just thought it would be a fun experiment to see how life would feel if I was always doing the things that I think are better for me, especially in regards to eating healthy, drinking more water, exercise, etc. And at the end of the week I will see which things I felt were beneficial enough to continue doing, and which ones I don't care about as much.

Also, I don't really think my goals are particularly strict. I left plenty of open time for other things in the evenings, like watching TV or whatever I feel like doing. I'm not really into living a super strict life. There's no fun in that.

  12. I love how I have to comments in a row, one saying I'm not being strict enough, and one saying it's really strict. Lol

  13. I'd also like to remind everyone that this ^ is not an invitation to tell me how I should change my goals. I didn't ask for that. If you want to play along and set your own goals, that's awesome. I've already given mine a lot of thought.

Well I'm not criticizing your goals actually its very good thread just wanted to say that quiting social media is also difficult and notification Will trigger to scroll down

  16. I understand, but I've given my goals a lot of thought. I have no interest in quitting social media altogether.

  17. Cool idea, good luck :)

  18. Love this so much. I also want to start a week like this, but it will be difficult since coming back to my parents to do laundry always screws up my streaks of self improvement.

  19. Today has been good so far :) healthy breakfast with water, had a great workout at the gym, healthy snacks, did my prayer/bible reading time and morning stretches.

Haven't written anything yet, but I'm probably going to work on that now. I think I'll go to the library :)

  20. Great ideas! Look forward to seeing your results.

This may be slightly off topic. One thing in your original post I would like to point out for people talking about living a “strict” life. Do what works for you, but one thing I read a while back that really resonated with me was that 80% adherence to positive lifestyle changes for a while year is better than 100% adherence for a month and then quitting and going back to old ways. That mindset has been really helpful to me. PMO abstaining is the only exception where I’m not satisfied with anything less than 100%.
