Punk Rock, Porn, and Capitalism

I love Punk. Always have and always will as I've always felt like I shared a kinship with not only the music, but the subculture. One of my most notable observations is that Punk in and of itself doesn't follow a rule book much like these cliques out there with their whole "listen to these bands, dress this way, watch these shows, talks to these guys, DON'T TALK TO THOSE GUYS, read these books, etc." Punk is basically what you make of it: from the Nazi to the Communist, from the Puritanical to the Satanical, from the Elitist to the Nihilist, from the Anarchistic to the Apathetic, from the Straight-edge to the Drunk. But, how many punk rockers out there seem to notice the Porn industry and it's being an oppressive entity bent on exploitation, manipulation, and humiliation for their own profit? Yes, I know that some members the scene does celebrate and even glorify porn; but I've a feeling there are those who understand they aren't a symbol of freedom of expression and anti-censorship... rather they are another gear in the capitalist machine that will gain at the expense of others even it it means expending another by any means necessary.

I agree! Original punk is all about protesting the status quo. The lyrics are extremely political so everything you are saying is true.

I don't know if you'd consider Green Day punk because they're so mainstream but they are definitely influenced by it.

NoFap punk, what an interesting idea. Not at all familiar with punk, but perhaps some of the feminist punk bands would have something to say about it?

 

I don't know I think Distributism, which is what they practice in Mondragon, Spain, is a better idea.
