How do people get temporarily suspended?

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by need4realchg, Oct 21, 2019.

  1. Just seeing this Happens from time to time. What causes it? Is it done by one mod or a group ?

Resist the urge. Don't toe the line. Mostly, it's unhinged personal attacks without an apology. If someone doesn't like what you're saying, delete it. You have a lot more leeway in your own space (journal), so don't sweat it. Basically, don't be a jerk, right? :)

From the rules of NoFap I understood that desicions on wether someone's behaviour goes against the rules are done by a group, not one mod. I would assume the same goes for deciding what punishment is the most appropriate. This has been done to avoid rogue mods.

I've seen plenty of cases in which people have been in my opinion really disrespectful towards mods without getting punished for it.

  5. Nonsense. They suspend you after reviewing you. And a review happens when multiple reports are filed against you and they find those reports to be valid and evidence based.

What you are saying is misinformation at best.

  6. I've been suspended once for an already deleted post, which is obviously still visible to the moderators. I deleted it a few hours after posting, because I noticed myself, that it was against the rules.

That's called self-moderation - and it didn't work at all. There is no room for error in a forum about porn addiction. ;)

That is simply not true. You get a message with a warning if you do something against the rules and your actions are closely monitored for a few weeks. I don't know what happens next since I've only received warnings but I assume you get banned if carry on saying the same things you were warned about. Moderators don't go around banning people who've offended them!

The mods don’t take action solely on their own. It’s not a random collection of rogue mods. They offer warnings and they all decide whether someone should be banned and for how long. They’re not disorganised.

Just don’t be a dick and you have nothing to worry about.

  9. I was more or less joking. Forgot people can be sensitive, sorry.

Or maybe it's just that sarcasm doesn't really show on text?

Speaking out of personal experience (I've been suspended twice, once I disagree with but understand, the other I disagree with entirely) I can guess that you are much more likely to get suspended if someone gets offended and reports you, even if its borderline and debatably within the rules.
This is because I've seen blatant violations and no suspensions, and debatable violations and large suspensions. Also sometimes it takes a while between the time of the alleged violation and the suspension. I could be wrong, but it makes sense.

If you aren't pc, the mods will crack down on you eventually. "Inclusive forum" and all that.

  15. It's about fornication and I wouldn't be surprised if at some point they back-pedal to "moderate porn use" to get along with the media. Masturbation "in moderation" is already advertised here, and I fully expect the "hard mode" retention fans to be cast out here at some point.

In the end it's about damage control by the porn establishment, not about waking up and questioning the fundamentals of satanism (the state religion of the West).

  17. Masturbation to porn not being healthy is a conspiracy theory my friend. How did you end up here?

I have understood that there is scientific evidence about porn being unhealthy. Besides although I do think that science propably doesn't know the full extent of harms of pmo, I think it's rather because of ignorance and lack of proper research, than because of a conspiracy.

  19. Yeah, that sounds about right. And even if people do report stuff, sometimes it does kind of depend on what moderators are online.

Of course one mod isn't going to ban or suspend somebody, but I have most certainly had major run-ins with one particular mod, who deleted several of my things that were nowhere even close to breaking the rules, and then basically lied and said that I asked him to do it.

So... yeah. I don't agree with some people here acting like the mods would never do anything out of personal spite or something.

Also, I remember once there was a comment where a dude was essentially telling some other dude to rape his wife, and SO many people complained and reported that comment. And I got a response saying thanks for my report, but that comment is "not actionable." Like what the hell? How on earth? Thankfully, a different (female) mod came online, saw those reports, and basically echoed my sentiments of "what the hell? How on earth is this not actionable?" And it finally got taken down.

Anyway. Just to say, yeah, most of the mods are good and their system is not disorganized, and they won't be letting one single person decide if someone gets suspended or banned (at least I'm pretty certain that's not how they do things). But when it comes to individual posts, warnings, strikes, etc., they are just human beings like the rest of us. They're not saints who never do anything wrong.
