The occasional relapse seems to be doing very little damage? Binging is the main problem?

So something I have been doing over the last few months is marking down my streaks, relapses and progress on a calendar.

Something I have realised over this time is the occasional relapse seems to be causing me very little damage. Now this doesn't mean that I think it is ok to relapse. I still try to not relapse, but basically if I do relapse that is me done after I have relapsed once.

What appears to be the biggest problem is binging. I used to be a big binger on PMO, literally binging on it all day every day, or nearly every day. But even when I was getting nofap, pornfree streaks, I would still binge for a day when I relapsed. But over the last few months I have realised if I do end up relapsing it is much better to try get it over with as quickly as possible and never binge. I think trying to make sure I never binge is the most important thing.

Relapsing keeps the path ways in your brain going. This is a drug, so it's like a drug addict saying every now and then a hit doesn't seem to hurt. And yes going cold Turkey is hard. It took me many many years to not judging any one. But I can say life is better without it at all.

  3. Relapsing is like opening the same gates you are trying to keep closed.

Binging is doubting the whole process in a sense is that you forget what you are working towards. Both are I guess necessary for the process to be fed up with it to the point that you will do your best to not repeat the same patterns.

At a certain point, a relapse doesnt even matter. Last december i relapsed after a 700 days streak. I actually felt good after pmoing, i smiled for what i had done and went immediatly back on track :)

Yeah I think you get to a stage where you have had such significant brain changes through rebooting that the occasional relapse pretty much does nothing, or almost nothing. But I think binging on PMO could even be harmful to someone who has never had any problems with PMO.

  6. I guess if we are talking about masturbation I think if you had a porn problem then it is not wise to revisit it since it may lead to the same loop you were in. Making sure that you do not go into binging spiral is important imo.

probably it's like that. When you're fully rebooted a relapse means nothing to your brain.

Yes relapsing on PMO is even dangerous for someone who has fully rebooted because using can heavily light up old pathways in the brain make old behaviours rapidly return. So you might think your in control and then before you know it your binging on PMO.

Something else I just want to clear up is you don't need to be a PMO addict to like porn or artificial sexual stimulation. The reality is most men would probably find it very appealing if they are horny.

It's kind of like saying only an alcoholic enjoys drinking alcohol. Of course many people who are not alcoholics enjoy drinking alcohol. It's the same with porn. Many men who are not PMO addicts enjoy masturbating to porn.

  9. Frequency keeps pathways in the brain going. More frequent the more reinforced, less frequent the less reinforced.
Gradual progress is normal and should be encouraged, massive change overnight is unnatural and is unlikely to stick.

Disagree, I tried the gradual withdrawal many times and always went back to PMO. For me it was I had to leave it all behind. Not easy, but the right thing for me.

I 2nd this. Why on earth would you play with fire when it burns? Theres a reason why many addicts enter rehab a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and sometimes more times. This is an addiction, not a hobby. It's the same consequences as using hard drugs. The brain doesnt know different. I for one am completely done causing self inflicted damage to my brain. I'm not going to live life continuing to go through withdrawal symptoms from this. When I am fully healed from my flat line I will have a smile on my face every day to remind myself that I'm on a new journey, one of which that doesnt involve being a slave to a billion dollar industry that just uses people and spits them out. PMO will not be affecting the rest of my life. Period.
