Has anybody been able to deal with the issue of 'porn flashbacks'. Over the last 40 years I must have absorbed an extraordinary amount of pornographic imagery - from the glossy magazines of the 1970s to contemporary high-definition video porn. Once this stuff gets into your mind it's almost impossible to eradicate. I can still recall photos and movies I first saw when I was in my teens.

The question is: as the rebooting process continues, does the recall of these images fade from the memory? I'd be interested to know if anyone has 'broken free' and is no longer experiencing flashbacks.

  2. My experience is that you can not forget it, but you can make the images harder to recover by cultivating a neutral or negative emotion towards it. Also, the less triggers, the less flashbacks.

I remember myself from those days, but sexually I outgrew that fase. So in a way I don't identify myself with my older self any more. Sounds a bit nuts I know o_O.

  3. I can't say they disappear, but they definitely lessen. I have to watch daydreaming/fantasizing. They lead me back to memories of porn.

    Keep with it bro,

Thanks for the post. I agree with you. I think it's impossible to 'forget' such powerful imagery so you have to develop a management system to deal with the triggers, otherwise you'll quickly go back to the old habits.

Just wanna share that I am having the same experience. Also notice that at Day 31 now, flashbacks alternate with fantasies directed at everyday people/friends I meet.. not sure what to do, just trying to be with whatever comes, and knowing they are impermanent thoughts.

  6. Being free is about choosing what you dedicate attention to, and not about being able to forget. You want to forget, you do not want to break free. You are afraid to face your own thoughts and memories, how can you face the world then?

  8. I used to have a lot of flashbacks in very random moments. It would get so extreme that sometimes a random sound from my environment would remind me of a specific porn scene that would trigger flashbacks. Now, i am 200+ days PMO free, i forgot majority of scenes and pornstar names i used to watch, but for instance a month ago a random pornstar name came to my mind out of nowhere and i even forgot how that pornstar looks like. Honestly, the 'favorite' porn movies that i used to watch a lot are still engraved in my mind and i still remember them and when i think of them now ...those scenes do not do anything for me. I do not get the urge to watch porn, i do not crave porn or masturbation im in "meh, who cares about porn" mood.

Flashbacks are gone, but i still very vividly remember my top favorite porn scene movies i used to watch a lot of times. They do not turn me on and i don't have urges about them anymore. Perhaps it will have to pass a real long time to forget about those.
