Should you be depressed if you relapse? Or even worse binge?

Should you be depressed if you relapse? Or even worse binge? Or should you not be depressed or upset and just keep trying?

How much does a relapse or binge hurt your recovery? In my opinion this would depend on how far along you're in your journey. So if you have had significant brain changes on your journey then a relapse or binge might not hurt you that much at all. Where as if you're right at the beginning of your journey then a relapse or binge will likely put you back to square one.

I don't know if depression is something you can turn on and off, but if you can I would leave it turned off. Relapse causes you harm and suffering. We are not trying to stop this habit because it improves us and our lives you don't need to add any anguish to it.

  3. The word 'should' isn't helpful here. You may be, you may not be, just try to learn from the relapse.
I do find it helpful to remember how awful I feel after I fall though.

It depends. Sometimes you feel depressed at once, at other times it takes a few days to hit. You just have to keep trying and not make excuses like:"Oh I relapsed so I'm back at day 0 now and I'm feeling like watching porn again let's do this". This leads to more and more PMO and you're back to square one.

How much does it hurt? Well it's a question that there is no sure answer. Every person is different so someone could feel after 30 days that they're back by let's say 10 days or someone might feel that all these days were lost. In theory it does not hurt to relapse without P once you recovered once in a month let's say (example). But you continue to do it and then guess what? You're lost. So bottom line is keep on that journey. It does not hurt to go all the way

  5. You have to be happy. Relapses make you stronger if you can be happy. Not becuz u looked at P, but cuz after that u can learn from a mistake and make a progress

I think "depressed" is not the right word in combination with "should be", as depression is not something that can be done intentionally. Maybe you should be angry at yourself. In my opinion, each relapse is a learning opportunity and you should make yourself aware why it happend (in which situations, how you felt before etc.) to avoid the next one (if possible). And yes, it definitely slows down (or in extreme cases stops) the recovery as you are refreshing the porn pathways.
