    Hi Everyone,

I have started on the nofap journey about 15 days ago. However, I have also started on my anti-depressants during that time too. I am currently taking 50mg Sertraline.

How does this affect the benefits of semen retention?

Would love to know your thoughts.

  2. I'm a third year pharmacy student and we had a course about antidepressants. I suggest that you should not take them. They can be addictive and pretty much disbalance your brain. I think it will make the flatline more bearable but at a price. Your reboot may take longer and may be less effective. Not much is known about this combination of nofap and antidepressants but this is just my hunch I give from the knowledge i know. I'm not a pharmacist, but still studying so take and use this advice at your own caution.

Unfortunately some people need to take them. Many people are depressed from circumstances but a small minority really have an imbalance in their brain chemistry. I’ve never been depressed or suffered from it, but dang when I married my husband I told him he needed to do something about it. He refused. So, 27 years later he finally went on meds!! Omg what a difference. He’s been clean of pmo since January and I really think the meds helped him.

I'll not advise you to go off antidepressants but as a person who has been suffering from drug resistent chronic major depression and general/social anxiety for 25 years, all I can say no antidepressant and anxiolytics helped me as much as daily aerobic exercise, proper diet, meditational breathing combined with cold showers (Wim Hof) and improving my sleep hygiene have. I came across dr.Stephen Ilardi's book: The Depression Cure: The 6-Step Program to Beat Depression without Drugs and started following his program in 2018. It did miracles for my mental well being. I'd probably not be alive now if I'd not found and followed prescribed steps. It was my last try to regain my peace of mind and get rid of addiction before giving up on life. You can read more about my fight with depression/anxiety in my journal -> Aug 8, 2018

  7. as someone who is a planning on being a pharmacist you need to stay in your lane. you are not qualified to tell someone to stop a treatment. especially a treatment for depression which could have serious consequences. also your view on the medication is not science based and frankly dangerous. your future profession will expect you to educate patients appropriately. let your response here stand as an example of what not to ever do again.

OP, i am a psych nurse. any decision about your medication needs to be handled between you and your healthcare provider.

in terms of your medication and your no PMO goals... SSRIs like zoloft can cause different degrees of sexual dysfunction in men including difficulty getting an erection and achieving orgasm. SSRIs are also used to help men with premature ejaculation. everyone responds differently and you need to discuss the risks and benefits of using a medication with your provider.

there are many reasons why people take zoloft. no matter what, the benefits of the medicine should outweigh the risks and issues you may have with the medicine.

be careful soliciting for information from folks. what seems like good information may just be a really convincing, dangerous opinion. ultimately no one on here really knows you. the better relationship you have with your healthcare provider the better your treatment will be.

SSRIs and SRA type drugs are the best thing for depression (although side effects no good lol) and would ironically be more effective for porn addictions than nofap. Although serotonin neurotransmission can be done without drugs and you can supplement it which should have less side-effects. The only thing that nofap would help with would be reducing delta-fosb and you only get a build of delta-fosb if you feel regret after cumming.

If we're honest, antidepressants have abysmal efficiency rate. Here is the abstract of the meta study on their efficiency:

The various antidepressants have been compared in many studies. Overall, the commonly used tricyclic antidepressants SSRIs and SSNRIs performed equally well. Studies of adults with moderate or severe depression showed:
    • Without antidepressants: About 20 to 40 out of 100 people who took a placebo noticed an improvement in their symptoms within six to eight weeks.
    • With antidepressants: About 40 to 60 out of 100 people who took an antidepressant noticed an improvement in their symptoms within six to eight weeks.
In other words, antidepressants improved symptoms in about 20 more people out of 100.

20 % better efficiency rate than placebo is astonishingly bad result. So yeah, they are the best today's pharmacology has to offer, but they're still very ineffective. Even most of today's cancer treatments have better statistics than this. I'm not saying people should abandon SSRIs and SSNRIs treatment if it works for them but there is very high change that antidepressants won't work for them and that they will experience side effects. After analyzing many studies on how untargeted SSRIs work (they can't target specific brain region so they overflow it) in the brain and finally listening to Stanford's professor Robert Sapolsky on depression and SSRIs, I ask myself how can this drugs be so widely prescribed. I can understand prescribing SSRIs/SSNRIs to someone who is so depressed that can't move or get out of bed or mental patient that has tried to commit suicide (as they tend to work much better in these groups), but not to general population given the common severe adverse events of these drugs.
