Ok, i'll start off by saying that i'm slightly tipsy so please excuse my grammar and english if not comprehended.

I'm also quite conscious writing this, like i know i have drank two glasses of red wine but i'm also aware of how bad alcohol in general is bad for our health, possibly also for our reboot, and i have no clue if it might or might not set me back, just like a wet dream.
Should i worry if i were to wake up with sticky boxers? I started to get over it after months of contemplating.
Don't get me wrong if i compared wet dreams to alcohol, one's a bad habit and the other is a natural unconscious ejaculation in out sleep.
And by all means, i'd do anything to boost my recovery and my wanting to see benefits.

So is alcohol bad for our recovery? First off, i'm a moderate frequent drinker (1-2 drinks a day) and that's as far as i will go, i hate feeling too drunk to not be able to understand or can't stand up like a newborn baby,.So you would easily understand that I have never even experienced a hangover. I have no clue how it feels like, and reading posts where people say they feel like shit, makes me want to quit alcohol for good.

Secondly, some may know that i'm a barman/waiter. So funny enough i have to be really careful not to develop a bad drinking habit. And guess where i drink after a day of hard work? At my bar of course. I could drink whatever i want, and know i'm seriously thinking of trying to quit. Maybe not for good, but at least minimize the dosages like once a week. fair enough?

And i have written all this just for a simple question, Is alcohol damaging our recovery from Pmo? or Does is it have the same effect on the brain as porn?

I'm guessing that alcohol is hooked into the whole reward circuitry so it's affecting our dopamine a little. And that's all i know.
So any in depth insights are more than helpful.

No, it has absolutely zero effect on rebooting. Porn damages your brain by conditioning your mind to respond to only certain sexual stimulation. Such as videos. Excessive Masturbation can lead to death grip and thus delayed ejaculation.

Just stop watching porn and don't Jack off excessively and you'll reboot. Alcohol has nothing to do with rebooting.
However I have found that dopamine-based drugs such as cocaine or meth are bad for your reboot.

  3. Being tipsy puts you in less conscious state. Less conscious you are more likely that you will relapse. Either because you may not be able to gather enough will power to stop or if you are really, really, REALLY tipsy you may not even bother to stop, or possibly even forget that you are rebooting to begin with. So you are playing with fire here. Ideally you want to be as conscious as possible with the most clear mind as possible, so you can access the full resources of the mind - will power, self control, motivation and enough awareness to notice urges and triggers early hence be able to act early to prevent them from triggering you fully.

  4. Yes alcohol has a negative effect on a reboot if you are a male. Alcohol, like PMO, messes with your male hormones. Drinking alcohol lowers your testosterone, increases conversion of testosterone to estrogen, and due to the endorphin release (the same reason frequent ejaculation causes the negatives we know and hate) the receptors to which testosterone and other male hormones bind also decrease their expression and are no longer available to be bound to.

    Sources:
    http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/arh25-4/282-287.htm - Alcohol
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11163119 - Alcohol
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12914589 - PMO/frequent ejaculation

Alcohol absolutely should be avoided during a reboot if possible - but if not, you should at least minimise your consumption. An occasional moderate amount of alcohol will only have a minor effect on your reboot - it's heavier binge drinking or frequent consumption of alcohol that will really set you back.

The main damage caused by PMO is exactly that: Damage to the male androgen system. That's why more women tend to have a slightly healthier relationship with MO than guys - because many of the worst negatives are male only. As seen in the above source, frequent orgasm causes decreased expression of your androgen receptors where testosterone and such bind. Our brains change based on the way we treat them - and as a result, simply abstaining is enough for our brain to recover and restore full receptor function. This is where most of those NoFap benefits are coming from. Increased confidence, increased energy, more attractive to the opposite sex, stronger morning erections etc - these are all symptoms of your male hormones returning to full efficacy.

So yes, something else that messes with this process, like alcohol, should be avoided if possible.

  5. I have a set of emotional triggers, nothing to do with sex, that pull me into a combined state of not caring with a tinge of wanting to hurt myself. If I've consumed alcohol (and my limit is one or two drinks as well) the likelihood of acting on this triggered state goes up... for rather obvious reasons I think.

From my research and common sense combined, drinking alcohol will not affect your sexual reconditioning. However, other than just reconditioning yourself to sexual stimuli, one of the great benefits that people get from NoFap is a greater sensitivity to lessor stimuli. Alcohol does produce a greater amount of dopamine than usual when drank in excessive amounts, which can lead to dopamine desensitization.

Everyone is affected differently by alcohol. No certain amount of alchol is bad for every person. It's a more person specific problem. Personally I can have 5-7 shots, feel a decent buzz, and be content.

One thing you should think about is how being in a buzzed or drunk state affects you. Personally I am the exact same person drunk or sober, but some people completely lose their decision making abilities.

Reflect on how alcohol affects you and make a logical decision about rather or not you should consume it and how much if so.

I guess alchohol will only affect your reboot if being drunk causes you to PMO (as in my case)

I know I'm late but what happens if you drink atleast 5 pints for one night for 1 month? Please someone respond I know I'm late but I have a social life and I like to drink with my friends. We don't do it all the time like mabye once a month so I think it shouldn't be a big deal but what do you think? Like I said please someone respond.

Alcohol lowers willpower, I had a very bad binge while drunk and I decided to stop drinking.

You should be fine, just be aware that your willpower is greatly diminished under the influence of alcohol, and this could lead to relapse if you are triggered.

  11. check out a video on youtube called "Why I think To Drink is To Die" By Pouya Iranitalab - I have heard some people find it helpful.

I would say no to alcohol - depending on your personality type.
