(I posted this on the NoFap subreddit but I'd like to share it here, too.)

I've just reached the 3 year mark.

Firstly, I would like to share my biggest advice in getting this far. Avoid triggers. Stay out of situations that lead to relapse, and you won't relapse. For instance, don't go on NSFW sites, don't watch sex scenes, and so forth. Don't tempt yourself.

About 90 days into my streak I started meditating. Now once a day I meditate. This may or may not have contributed to helping me stay PMO free.

In these 3 years, I've gotten my first job, learned to live independently, and I'm more confident and calm and sociable than I've ever been.

It's been such a long time that I don't see "benefits" so much anymore, now it's just my reality.

One of the best benefits is simply not worrying about all this stuff anymore. Not counting each day since your last relapse, not worrying about future relapses, etc. I've successfully overcome this whole thing and moved on. It's possible.

The last 3 years haven’t been perfect. Being PMO free will not make your life perfect. But all the tough times I went through these last 3 years would've been much, much more tough had I not been PMO free. And being PMO free has helped enabled me to reach all manners of success in my life.

I will try to answer as many questions as I can. Feel free to PM me, as well.

How long was your journey before this final, super impressive 3 year streak? When did you discover NoFap?

I started trying to abstain back in 2012. So it took around 4 years. And I started masturbation in 2009.

What were your reasons for quitting PMO?

Hello, I doubt it. Why would you wanna do that anyway?

I felt it was causing physiological harm to me.

Congrats man, 3 years... you're an inspiration to us all.
One question. How bad was your addiction regarding a frequency and duration (was it a daily thing, long binges...)?
Did you experience depression or anxiety during your reboot and if so, how long did it last and what helped you overcome it?
Have you given up on MB altogether or do you practice it in moderation?

    Thank you.

At my worst, I was doing it 2 to 3 times a day. I had binges. When I started to try to abstain I would go for around 1 to 2 weeks and then relapse, sometimes a binge.

I didn’t notice any depression or anxiety.

I have given up on MB altogether.

Thanks for the answers. Interesting to hear about lack of depression/anxiety as I was hit by both. It might be associated with duration of the problem (I was an addicted to MO binges for 25 years). You also solidified my decision to give up MB for good.

Welcome. Yes, possibly. Glad to hear that.

    Thank you. You’re welcome. Awesome.

It’s gone. It’s been a very long time since I had that.

Thanks. I think once you reach 90 days you can stop counting. For me, I overcame those feelings simply by abstaining from PMO for an indefinite period of time. I suppose you just have to be patient.

    Hi,

Thank you for your contribution to inspiring us all, who are still in the trenches.
I am 32 now, and I was about 22-23 when I realised masturbation affects me in a bad way. Then I started reading about it and found out that I was right and it was really a threat to life. But I guess I was too immature to realise the true harm I'm inflicting on myself, so I was trying to abstain. But in all honesty, I wasn't even dreaming about quitting it forever, I remember it felt like an unbreakable psychological barrier, I was still PMO-ing constantly, sometimes even 2-3 times a day.

I am not very social, open, outgoing person, so you can believe when I say that I'm not great with girls as well. Although I am a good looking guy I see girls are attracted to me and checking me out, I can't connect with any of them. On the career side, I am even worse than that.

And all of this is because of PMO.

I wanted to ask how old are you now, and how much you're life improved relationship-wise and career-wise.

    Thank you.

    Welcome.

I'm sorry to hear about your struggles.

I'm 24. I'm much better socially, the best I've ever been. I had a girlfriend back when I was still engaging in PMO. About a year ago I had an intimate encounter with a girl, it was basically a one-off.
I got my first job nearly 2 years ago. I doubt I would've been able to hold a job back when I was still engaging in PMO.

    Hi,

After a while did you ever get an earge to watch porn again just to make sure everything is as you left it. How did you overcome this?

How did you cope with edging along the way, did you even edge?

When I stop counting I eventually have a reset, it sneakes in. Ant advice?

Hi. No. I would never watch porn again regardless.

    I never edged.

For me, I never reset even when I stopped counting, so I'm not sure.
