Affected by seasonal change?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Ogikubo, Dec 1, 2019.

  1. October and November were months that I found tough to get through. I was checking triggering images all the time. I relapsed and rebooted.
In retrospect, I think I was getting too comfortable with my recovery. Then when seasonal changes hit, in addition to genuine stress in my life, I fell back in the way I'd being doing all my life: PMO.
I recently dumped Instragram and that was a relief. I have been spending time encouraging others on this site. I have almost completely stopped spending time seeking triggering images. I have not done any PMO. I am trying to do more exercise, even if it is only 20 minutes.
Anyone else find that the fall was a challenging period for you? I suppose it can be difficult if you live in a place with four distinct seasons and daylight saving time. If so, I hope you have bounced back.

I have the same problem. Short cold dark days have been killing my mood in November. Being stuck inside, not being able to go out in nature and do outdoor exercise has made me really depressed.

  4. I wonder if someday there will be a study linking climate and PMO behaviour. I'd like to think guys in warm, sunny, tropical climates aren't as affected as we are, but, given the reach of the internet now, I wonder.

There is a link. People in Southern Italy, Greece, soutern Spain and other mediterranean countries have far less depression problems than those living in countries with less sun. But then again, if one would go out for an hour long walk during the day regardless of a weather, he would get enough vitamin D to lift his mood. The problem is we tend not to get out when it's freezing or rainy.

  6. Yeah, I think that is a good point. Next year, like in September or October, I need to think ahead and ensure I am getting the vitamins and the fresh air before the early sundown. Fresh air & vitamin D can do wonders.

  7. November through February/beginning of March are tough for me.

I did think about it ahead of time this year but I’m still having difficulty.

Oh my gosh man. Yes! I agree with you so much. I’ve been having the same issue. October and November was terrible for me. I’m struggling right now very bad to not look up provocative images. The shorter darker and cold days are depressing for sure. And winter has just started :( my advice would be to try to get sunlight on the day’s when we actually see some, take a vitamin D supplement and some fish oil. I want to go somewhere warm in the winter lol.

I started using a happy light to help me on the dark days. It helps a lot for me.
