Other things happen in life. I might get other worries, or begin obsessing about something else. When this happens what I have noticed is I can sometimes drop my guard for pornfree and nofap, which then might result in a relapse or even worse a binge. It's only after I do this I realise the extent of how bad PMO is again, and then I become motivated to quit again.

I guess what I am wondering is how do you stay in a permanent strict mindset to never PMO forever?

Every relapse and failure teaches you something. You become stronger. You start to detect more easily what triggers you, in what situation you are the most inclined to slip, how your mind is making up all kinds of strategies to make you do it without you being aware.

Knowledge is important as well as it reinforces your choice. Read a maximum of reports, success stories and books on the topic to never forget why you are doing it and to learn about the enemy. Knowledge is your shield if I can say.

A few have the ability to keep a strict mindset in permanence and even though they have probably come a long way to get there. This is one of the most stubborn addiction to fight. Just trust the process and get experience from your failures to strengthen your will and vigilance to not get trapped in the same patterns all the time.

In my case, I tend to relapse when I'm in a modified state of consciousness induced by alcohol or weed. I need to work on these addictions in order to be PMO free for a longer time. It's not just about PMO it's about changing a whole lifestyle, this is challenging but wonderful.

  3. I remember what possibilities I have without porn and masturbation. Family, a stable career, a loving future wife, a relationship with God.

I remind myself of the self destructive rabbit hole I was in just a year ago and all the hellish withdrawal symptoms I had to endure to break out of addiction cycle. That's good enough reason for me to stay on track.

  6. Come here and make a post to someone in need of advice or reassurance at least once a day. Look on it as a duty. It will help you by giving perspective on your own addiction and recovery status.

I wish I knew the answer!

I can only advise that I've been able to do this one day at a time :)

My faith compels me towards a mindset to think of how my actions in this life will resound in the next. It's one thing to consider the effects of PMO for our lives today, it's entirely different to consider the effects of PMO for eternity.

When you start thinking about what our few days upon this ball of dust mean in light of forever...it helps you think of how important it is to get things right while you still can.

My mind set is just take it one day at a time. I remind myself that today I choose to be sober. I think choice is an important part of recovery. We all have choices. And the choices we make define who we are. I choose to love myself enough to not engage with pornography.

  10. After many relapses, i realise that i really can't stand being at the bottom again. I'm at 27 days now and i feel like all my previous attempts have built up to this. I was immensley stressed yesterday and didn't relapse because I thought "ok, i'm doing really badly today, but at least I'm achieving something for myself by not wasting my life on porn" so I'm pretty motivated right now. Also, there's a sense of excitement that I'm nearing my previous longest streak of 40 days and really want to go beyond it.

For the most part the things are remember are:

    1) The value of time and how the amount of it invested on porn is a waste and a massive distraction from the things i know need to get done.
    2) That there is more to life than sexual gratification, and for that matter it isn't that important or that much of a big deal as to allow it to rule every single aspect of my life when i think about it.
    3) The messy things which have been known to happen in the porn industry.
    4) How continuous consumption of pornography can be dehumanizing.

Relapses can happen and i sure had them, but i try to take what i learned from each one of them and turn it into a step forward in my recovery process.

  12. I remember how far I've come. I still have a long long ways to go before I'm totally cured, but the journey of personal development and transformation I've undergone in the last year and a half is truly amazing and even thinking about the dark place I was in beforehand motivates me to keep going.

You become used to this way of life over time if its something important to you and you want to take it seriously. It eventually becomes instilled in your mind. You’ll eventually always have your guard up no matter what, it’ll be in the back of your mind. The only fight is really the urges themselves and the brains want for dopamine. But once you get nofap instilled in your brain as a life habit, you start to rationalize your thinking during urges and triggering moments way more often and easier thus making it all the more easier.

When I am really down, I like to read journals about the possibilities of NoFap and how you can finally live your life to the fullest.
You are in peace and accept yourself who you are. Life will be never perfect but at least always try your best is all you can do.

Become more aware of your urges. You have to realise when you get an urge your subconcious will do everything it can to trick you into thinking you want to watch porn or masturbate. If you become aware when you start to get the urge you can do stuff to prevent the urge from getting stronger, like read nofap posts or go for a walk.
