The day I yelled at my mum for no reason was when I realised I had a problem. Here is my story

Male 23, addict since the age of 13. A decade of porn addiction.

6 months ago I graduated college. I had not idea where to go forward from here. I would be irritated at all time, the irritation of an insecure future, the irritation and frustration of being single my whole college life, and always feeling that I was missing out on the fun that my friends were having.

My life had been a life of dissatisfaction since the last 5 years (after completed my schooling). So 4 months ago i yelled at my mother so some minuscule issue, i cant remember what the issue was, Later that day I became extremely disgusted and ashamed of myself. I had noticed something in the past that, me being irritated at all time, missing in action, and being dissatisfied by my life had something to do with my porn addiction. So from that day, i decided that i would take control of the chemicals in my brain and will gain satisfaction only from natural ways.

For me this meant majorly removing porn from my life, but at the same time I also started working on my other addictions that used to release this synthetic dopamine and serotonin in my brain.

    These habit included:
    1. Quitting social media (I had deleted my facebook and snapchat account 3 years ago, this time I decided to deactivate my instagram account aswell.)

    2. Quitting Porn

    3. Limiting my youtube use to education videos only. (I highly recommend the channel ACADEMY OF IDEAS, this channel is far better than The school of life.
The philosophy discussed in Academy Of Ideas has changed the way I see my life and the lives of the people around me.)

    4. Quitting 9gag.

    5. Quitting Junk Food and fast food

Thing have been awesome for me, I took complete control over my life. I started exercising an iron fist will power, found focus in my career, found satisfaction and happiness in working hard, i sleep much better and i use every minute of my day towards developing myself and finding that satisfaction i get from engaging in hard work.

Factors that helped me turn my life around

    1. Youtube channel : ACADEMY OF IDEAS

    2. BOOK : RICH DAD POOR DAD

    3. ADD 2 HOURS TO YOUR WORKING ROUTINE (DO 2 HOURS OF WORK AS SOONAS YOU WAKE UP. ADDING 2 HOURS TO YOUR ROUTINE ADDS UPTO YOU BEING 4 MONTHS AHEAD OF YOUR COMPETITION. FREAKING 2 HOURS ADDING 4 MONTHS/YEAR TO YOUR WORK EXPERIENCE)

    4. WORKING HARD AND GETTING SATISFACTION FROM A JOB WELL DONE.

Thats all folks, the day you realise how much life, and opportunities porn as stolen from you, the day you get angry on yourself for allowing porn in your life will be the day you will be able to recover. Stop keeping count, stop looking for milestones, make porn free living your lifestyle one day at a time.

I have been porn free approximately 3 months now

  2. Congratulations on your streak! I like the fact that you chose a holistic approach and want to change your entire life and not only remove PMO. It worked for me as well. Stay strong.

  5. Yeah man. Better not yell at mother. I had that in past and that's one of my rare regrets I have. Parents are here just once, enjoy it.

Did you experience social anxiety in the past?

I would find every reason to stay at home.
Until starting nofap, my 2 close friends would feel enough to me. Probably because everytime I felt the slightest need or want to know more people I would watch porn, and then go back to watching youtube or gaming. I did not experience much of social anxiety, but watching porn definitely hindered my social growth.

College is the most important time for us to make contacts and friends in your industry. And being addicted to porn, any social situation would feel like a threat to me. I was not able to get to know enough people. We never had fun together, and now then it is in the past i regret it sometimes. That is where porn addicting stabbed me the deepest.

  10. @lakshya561 You have the right mindset, keep improving and keep on your mission. Glad you realized these things... videogames and P go together for so many i realize. They both make you numb and totally unaware, they immerse you in fantasy land so that you are blinded to reality. i gotta stay off the chess

@engelman Some of the realizations in the OPs post are what i want you to see. Look back and notice how pmo affected your actions and your life. For example, just staying inside all day instead of going out and connecting with friends

Man, I can relate deeply. I feel the pain and remorse for screaming at my mother, even years after it happened. Yet she always reassures me that she still loves me and has nothing in her heart on me. Truly, no women on earth can replace my mother. No matter how I treat her like an animal, she will still continue to love and see me as her little boy. To me she is heaven and the biggest blessing from God almighty :(:(

Hey @lakshya561, congrats on that long streak of yours. I'm sure your life has turned around drastically. Its also likely that your mum is proud of you. I too am a recent graduate and I am still looking for jobs. I deeply relate to you on the feeling of an insecure future. But do you know what helped me manage the anxiety that comes from an insecure future. The lessons I learnt from my nofap journey. I'm sure you've learnt these lessons as well. To take control of your future, to be disciplined etc.

If you haven't found a job yet, it's going to be tough. But know that if you keep on trying, you will land your dream job and it will be all worth it.
