I seen this video of professor David Nutt who is a neuropsychopharmacologist specialising in the research of drugs that affect the brain and conditions such as addiction, anxiety, and sleep.

In the video he speaks of a long analysis that was done ranking the most harmful and dangerous drugs. The order went like this.

    1. Crack cocaine
    2. Crystal meth
    3. Heroin
    4. Cocaine
    5. Alcohol

But it was also reported that alcohol kills the most people of any drug.

The reason alcohol kills the most people of any drug is because far more people drink alcohol, and naturally one of the biggest reasons more people drink alcohol is because it's legal. If as much people took say heroin as what drank alcohol then heroin would be the biggest killer. But it's just far more people drink alcohol, mainly because it is legal and this is why it kills more people than any other drug.

But then you hear people talking about how prohibition doesn't work. Banning alcohol wouldn't work, people would still get it. The facts are there, that banning things can massively reduce the harms. People might still get it and do it, but far less people overall are going to do it if it is illegal, and this would massively reduce the harms.

This could go for anything that is harmful. If it was made illegal or if blocks were put in the way, yes people might still be able to get it, but much less people are going to do it overall because it is illegal and because of the added difficultly to get around certain blocks.

I can speak for alcohol, and I actually kind of feel this way about porn.
First, porn use should ABSOLUTELY be prohibited from people under 18, and hopefully we'll see legislation holding porn sites responsible for this. It's ridiculous that this hasn't come around, like selling cigarettes to 14 year olds.
    But
I don't think porn should have a nationwide ban.
Also, yes alcohol kills people, but the majority of people can enjoy it and control it-- a VAST majority. It sucks that people like me should suffer, and that I can't have my wine at dinner, because a select few people (who are mostly in a degenerative state) get drunk and commit crimes and kill others and themselves. I think even AA acknowledges that alcohol isn't OUR (non-alcoholics) problem.
Unlike alcohol, I'm inclined to agree with you that pornography probably doesn't have as much positive traits around it. I'm not a porn addict, but I'm here because I realize that it's pretty blatant self-improvement to permanently remove pornography in any degree from my life and that I'll lack nothing in removing it.
Wine, on the other hand, tastes good, I like buying it and showing it to my friends-- the enjoyment is immense, and I can't even the last time I was wasted using it, or even absurdly drunk, or abusing the product. I don't think I ever "enjoyed" pornography, I think it always just hid pain.
I always hear these arguments against alcohol, and it does some bad shit in society for sure, but it's also embedded in the culture in a number of healthy ways for sure.

Let's put it this way: if alcohol was discovered today, it would definitely not become legalized anytime soon, if ever.

  5. I politely disagree in that if alcohol is prohibited it would cause less problems. When stuff is made illegal and have roadblocks it makes it that much more dangerous. The evidence is right in front of us too. We had alcohol prohibition and we had raising it to 21 and 18, 19 year olds are drinking in excess bc theres no bartender to cut them off.

When things become "not allowed" people (typically cool people) ask themselves why is this so not allowed? & makes them want to do it more. Look at underage alcohol consumption and marojuana consumption. Along w other illicit drug usage
