Many times I read the following lines "The porn industry xyz...".

    Now the thing is:

I'm mostly addicted to amateur made porn and my impression is that since 3-4 years most of the streaming sites' content is made up of amateur channels. While I absolutely relate to the argument that porn addiction is especially bad because it's artificial and professional, it's much more difficult for my brain to think the same about amateur porn.

My brain knows it's just as damaging, but some part always says: "Well it's real and authentic, isn't it? It can't be that bad then?"

Can anybody of you relate? How do you deal with that "professional porn vs. amateur porn" - thought? How do you tell your brain that it's just as damaging?

I don't necessarily share the same belief, but I have a porn addiction nonetheless. I do know what you mean too though. I'll just share my two cents, but It's just speculation since I've never considered the point you've raised
I think it's probably not possible to trick your brain either way aside from recovery ultimately. I'd say the mere fact that we are watching other people have sex and getting off to it - no matter how mild or extreme - would simply be considered porn. Since it's someone else's sexual experience that we are using for our own gratification that in a sense is objectification. Being that it's not us experiencing actual intercourse with another guy/girl and we are satisfying our sexual urges otherwise it's damaging to how sex in the first person is to us. Besides who would prefer porn over actual intercourse with a partner (don't get me wrong, this has been an issue for myself and I can't judge another's preference)?
Anyways that's just my opinion on the matter. I hope you succeed at whatever you aim for no matter where you are in your journey through this treacherous terrain. Best of luck to you my fellow fapstronaut!

Porn is porn. No way around it.

Both categories have a cameraman with a slimy boner filming two people having sex.

I'm addicted to amateur pornography too, but the thing is I realise that the people in the video are insanely attractive and at least 75% of all people in real life do not look as good as they do in these films. As the comments above state, no matter what porn you're watching, you're gratifying yourself to other people doing what you can't have.

For me, porn is porn. I know that even if I watch the amateur porn, the links on the side will lead to the mainstream stuff anyways. It's all on the same website as well. I like to stay away from all porn.

I really like your post, Magic!

One of the reasons I resisted believing there was such a thing as porn addiction is that all of the experts interviewed about it would say dumb stuff like, "Porn creates unrealistic expectations. The actresses look nothing like real women and the sex is likewise unrealistic."

I would think to myself: I freaking hate professional porn with women with enhanced boobs, moaning unrealistically. When was the last time this expert watched porn? 1987? The women I have sex with are all more attractive than the women on the porn I watch, and the sex I'm watching is mediocre compared to the sex I'm having.

Of course, that was before porn broke me. Now, the sex I'm having sucks. I'm broken.

Here's the answer to your question.

    The experts are wrong.

Porn is not bad because it gives us unrealistic expectations.

It's bad because we masturbate to it for three hours.

It's bad because we do everything we can to bump dopamine as high as we can. I know for a fact that my dopamine shoots higher BECAUSE the amateur wife is a real woman.

I watched cartoon porn, so it's the same issue, and I've used that same reasoning. I'm not harming anybody, this is no adultery, etc.

But the issue isn't here. I'm harming someone, and it's Jesus and me. I want to stop porn because of God. Even if there was not a single problem with porn, it's not what He wants me to do. This is the only reason I need, because this is the only reason that matters to me.

When I'm horny, any other reasons disappear. I don't care anymore. What if I will be lonely forever ? Don't care. It's harming your brain! Don't care. You will feel really bad afterward ! Don't care, etc.
I'm not saying doing that because I don't want to sin makes it easy. But that's why after each relaspe I still go on, because until the end of my life, I know this is the right thing to do.

To me there is no distinction, porn in porn.

My principal drive to rid myself of it is due to the exploitative nature of the whole industry. You cannot trust anything, professional porn is littered with stories of exploited performers, amateur porn is filled with stolen revenge porn.

Do not be deceived by the term "amateur". Maybe the participants are not being paid, but someone else is making money - such as selling subscriptions, through advertisements or both.

There is a push by the purveyors of porn to increase consumption by attempting to reduce shame and to cater to women. The term "amateur porn" and "feminist porn" are thrown around.

The crux of the matter is that we are having a relationship with porn - a relationship with a screen, instead of or at the expense of having a connected relationship with a real person.

Porn is an object (not a person) that is incapable of providing us with the love and connection that we desire. The genre is irrelevant. No matter what the genre, porn will not love or emotionally connect with us.

I remember when I interned at a place while I was 15, and the guy who was tasked with looking out for me was an older fella who used to carry around a flash drive that had hundreds of photos of girls, who were all fully-clothed and smiling at the camera. Sounds innocent enough, right?

Except this this guy would spend his entire break looking through these images, before going to the bathroom to "finish it off", so to speak.

My point is that he was finding sexual gratification from looking at these images, even though they were not even remotely sexual in nature.

So it doesn't matter what you're attracted to, if you use it as a release for your sexual mechanism, it has the same effects on your brain chemistry, and as we all know, the amount of dopamine released this way is completely unnatural due to the extraordinarily higher levels compared with having natural sex with a partner.

You might be into amateur porn, or softcore porn, or even hardcore porn. You might get off using sexual fantasies made up in your head, or even to seemingly innocuous things such as observing attractive women on the streets. If it hijacks your brain's natural reward circuit, then it is detrimental to you and has the same addictive effects on your psyche, so it doesn't matter if you add a prefix in front of the word porn, or even if it is not traditionally considered to be porn.

  12. I've also always been more turned on by amateur porn that professional. The reason I found it so overwhelmingly hot was because these were not fantasy scenarios but regular people doing it. They could be your neightbors or someone you know and it was that extra perverted aspect of it that pulled me into it.

Always though the argument of porn creating unrealistic expectations to be hogwash. I mean, so do mainstream movies and nobody gets addicted to them. If anything, the artificial and stylized nature of professional porn actually helps you to at least distance yourself a bit from what you're watching. With the amateur stuff, the distancing is a lot harder because it looks more realistic and natural, so in that sense it can be as problematic and addictive as the professional, your subconscious believes it is real but the only reality is that you're still just actually jerking off to a computer screen.

Plus, amateur porn is still part of the industry, if not of the production branch, definitely of the distributing branch. Streaming sites are still profiting from it.

I relate to what you said a lot. I was thinking something very similar.

Still, my brain can't help but putting things into my head like:

"That's a real couple that is neither getting exploited nor doing it for money."

    "That's authentic sex."

"I want to do the same like them. I'm jealous. They are living the real deal."

I know those thoughts are all bs and not helpful. But it seems so much harder to get them out of my head, solely because they are amateurs and real-life couples.
