I'm glad that I can help!

To get a good understanding of what's going on with you, I would check out the website Your Brain On Porn (YBOP) for the best answers. The site is curated by the leading experts in porn addiction and its symptoms.

This is an overview of the theory and mechanics of porn addiction/PIED...

    Definitely give ^^^ a read.

What about fantasizing during a reboot?
What if I masturbate (edge) or watch porn without orgasm?
HELP! I quit porn, but my potency, genital size, and/or libido are decreasing (the Flatline)

Rebooting with a partner is considered by many, including myself, to be very beneficial for overcoming porn addiction and PIED. While it is better that you have a girlfriend through this, you will face different obstacles and challenges through the reboot, so check these out...
Rebooting with a partner: What about sex?
What do I say to my mate?
Porn-induced ED: What do I tell my girlfriend?

Your girlfriend should absolutely know the basics about your problem and the reboot, but you should exercise discretion about the details (namely the stuff you were in to, how often you watched, other behaviors she might find upsetting). If you just say you're doing the reboot to get rid of your PIED and she cares about you, I'm sure she will be very supportive and non-intrusive. If you are comfortable, you may also show her these articles...

I know I just linked a ton of material, which often have dense verbage and concepts, but the more you know, the more you can combat this affliction. For every obstacle or problem you face, their is likely already a solution on YBOP. Hope this helps!

Hey, I read your message and the articles a few weeks ago but forgot to answer (exams in France)

My girlfriend understood and 1 month after hardcore NoFap I had pretty good morning woods which lasted for a good time when standing up

But in the middle of the night I edged to reach the limit of orgasm (thinking that it wouldn’t ruin my progress) and after that all my efforts dropped out, like at 80%: less strong erections, when standing up it weakened, sometimes I didn’t have morning wood at all.

It’s been 3 weeks and it starts coming back but for those who are reading me and have PIED: NEVER NEVER NEVER EDGE EVEN WITHOUT P THOUGHTS

Can edging over and edging just induce a flatline?

The flatline is caused by not masturbating; it is a period with low arousal, no/weak erections, and often accompanied by bad mood, low motivation, and stress. Edging, due to high arousal over an unnatural period of time, causes sexual exhaustion, not a flatline. Where a flatline is like a car engine losing power after not being used for a long time, sexual exhaustion is like your car engine exploding after being pushed too hard.

Then why or how did my penis shrink/shrivel from binging on porn and I get all of the physical and mental flatline symptoms? That makes no sense.

I'm tempted to commit suicide because I can't understand what I'm going through clearly...

Edit: Sorry, I won't be committing suicide. Didn't mean to scare anyone. But my case feels hopeless!

If you're binging on porn and wanking yourself all the time, your dick muscles are getting tired aha. You're using them too much, and they can't keep up with the physical strain.

Additionally, binging on porn desensitizes your brain to whatever mental and physical stimulation you're using. You'll be less hard each time you PMO to the same thing bcos your brain needs more to get the same kick.

Over time, the physical and mental exhaustion from binging will make you less likely to get boners and arousal irl. While this mimics a flat-line, it is the polar opposite. The flatline happens because the sex centers of your brain are unused and then die, making you unable to get aroused, while sexual-exhaustion, what you've been describing, is the result of you overworking your body.

Check out this FAQ. Many of your questions can be answered here

I see. Thank you. This is the article right?

    https://www.yourbrainonporn.com/reb...t-about-sexual-exhaustion-as-a-cause-of-pied/

I'm not quite sure what's the jist of it exactly. Is it trying to discredit sexual exhaustion as a cause of e.d.? Because I have e.d., but it's probably from sexual exhaustion...little confused here.

That article is a little more targeted at non-scientific practitioners who believe sexual exhaustion is a physiological phenomena, so it may not fit our specific purpose.

But you are correct in the fact that the article does discount "sexual exhaustion" as a cause of ED.

Firstly, I'd like to point out that you shouldn't call yourself "sexually" exhausted, because you haven't been exhausted by sex, but by PMO; sex and PMO are very different, and have far different effects on the brain and body. You aren't exhausted from sex, but from PMO and arousal.

Secondly, while you may be experiencing the symptoms of a flatline, it does not mean you are in one. While research into porn addiction recovery is relatively new, researchers know the "flatline" is a list of symptoms that occur when a heavy porn user stops PMOing. You cannot be in a flatline because you have not yet stopped PMOing.

Quitting porn begins a chain reaction of symptoms that we call a flatline. When you start your reboot, after the initial phase of extreme horniness, the neurons in your sexual reward center wired to PMO begin to wither and die because they are not being used anymore. Since your primary arousal network is basically falling apart, you just won't be aroused very much, or at all, anymore. Since you won't be aroused, you won't get boners anymore. Since you're not getting boners anymore, your penis isn't being stretched as much or receiving as much blood-flow as it did in the past, so it looks shriveled up and smaller. Not getting off makes people moody and aggressive. Your brain releases stress chemicals because the actions you're taking are not evolutionarily beneficial. All of this put together can make one feel depressed as well.

Thirdly, we can finally get into your symptoms, which you believe are a flat-line. I'm just going to say you don't have one because you haven't quit porn yet. You mentioned your penis looking smaller and other flatline symptoms, so I'm gonna assume you mean some of the common flat-line symptoms...
    1. moody and aggressive behavior
    2. lack of arousal and libido
    3. loss of erections and erectile quality
    4. stress and anxiety
    5. hopelessness and suicidal thoughts
    6. loneliness

We're going to assume binging on porn has led to these symptoms. Symptoms 2 and 3 are almost certainly PIED. Your brain has gotten so used to porn binges, that real life women, and even less extreme/shocking porn, does not provide the same arousal. Most people get their daily arousal from everyday things, like an attractive person or racy pic. You aren't experiencing this because your mind is conditioned to only react to extremely arousing media. All the other symptoms likely stem from the fact that PMO:
    1. isolates you from real humans during arousal and sex, which prevents the release of extremely effective stress-relieving and bonding chemicals,
    2. and it takes up time you could have spent with another human being, which our minds need to stay positive, stress free, and happy.
Your porn binges are the result of these symptoms, not a flatline. For many, the flatline is the scariest and hardest part of a reboot because after a period of extreme horniness and libido, their porn-addiction symptoms seem to come back in full or worse condition.

While it may seem like a flat-line, this is not what you have. You are experiencing the common conditions of porn addiction and PIED. I would advise you to read YBOP's overview of how porn affects us and how to overcome these effects. I'll also link more articles specific to your case.

Thank you. This all makes sense. But however, wouldn't you say that my symptoms are the result of porn binges though not the result of my symptoms?

Yes, your symptoms are likely the result of your porn binges. I don't understand the second half of your sentence though.

In your prior paragraph (before this newest reply, to which I'm replying to now), 'Your porn binges are the result of these symptoms, not a flatline.' is what you said prior.
