I have 5 lb. freeweights at home. (I'm not that strong) What would be an adequate amount of time to do bicep curls on one arm for? I tried 5-6 minutes, aiming for 8 minutes just doing reps over and over with no rest going slower as I did the bicep curls, stopped, and continued until I hit that 8:22 mark.

Is this not a good way to start?

The best way to maximize the efficiency of your workout is to find the right intensity for the workout. If you’re going for strength, I would start counting reps and not time. Sounds like to me you need more weight, I usually do 3 sets of 10-15 reps and as long as I feel like I can barely lift the weight at the end then I know I’m doing good, just make sure you give your body the rest it needs also though
