the longer you're addicted the harder it is

i bet many of the people that are on 90+ day streaks are young (late teens-early 20s). When you're in your 30s, trying to break the addiction is difficult. You're basically trying to stop what you've done for the past 10-20 years daily if not multiple times in a day. Making it to 30 days last year was extremely difficult, and 90 days just doesn't seem possible. Anybody in their 30s have a triumphant story over porn addiction?

I follow your reasoning, but it doesn't work that way. It is the teens and 20+ year olds that have the hardest time of it.

That is because older guys (like me) were not exposed to high-speed internet porn when our brain was developing during puberty. The history of older guys often features the use of 'dirty magazines' or old VHS video tapes with relatively mild 'vanilla porn' compared to what was available since the internet went high speed. It may seem strange, but it is true. o_O

    I agree with @IGY .

Access to high speed internet changed everything. I'm almost 30. When I was 13-14 I was addicted to porn right from the start, but it was only softcore porn on late TV. I remember I stayed up late until midnight and then spent half of the night in front of the TV and went to school so exhausted the next day. The dopamine rush was high already, but very very tame compared to what started when I first got my own computer.

If high speed internet wasn't invented in my youth and I'd still had to rely on late night TV, I wouldn't have developed such am addiction.

I don't quite agree with this, but it could possibly be just because of my specific circumstances.

I'm 15, and I started PMO'ing at 14. I started to quit 6 months in, (this lessens the devestation of the "12 months of PMO") Ever since i tried to quit, my highest streak was 14 days. On average, my streaks are 4-7 days. I PMO once a week, now, trying to quit.... I've been doing once a week for like the past 6-8 months. It's very challenging for me to get to 2 weeks, even 1 week can be difficult.

I had a 2 year streak starting at age 28. Then I decided one binge would be ok...

This is not merely a personal opinion. These are the observations of Gary Wilson (admin for yourbrainonporn.com website).

That theory may only apply to 50+. 30 year olds now definitely were getting porn from p2p applications over the internet. It just took longer to download.

Level of addiction depends on many factors, i'd say the primary ones are age of first jerking off, age of first pmo, type of content (solo women like playboy or hardcore "straight" sex which is bisexual) and frequency of real sex, if any.

I started at 12 with p2p programs like kazaa. I was downloading 3-4 mb clips of porn. While high speed internet makes downloading and streaming stuff more accessible and provides more novelty which is addicting on it's own, you could access porn back then with phone line 56k modem connection, it really only depended on your level of commitment. Or you could watch hardcore pics, which were also very damaging.

I used to be extremely addicted and had been trying to quit for 6 years or so, max i got was 90 days after the 5th year but i was still craving PMO. So i changed my approach 180 to watch porn and not get aroused, to use a silicone sleeve to hump instead of jerking off and to jerk off a silicone penis in a non-sexual way so that i overwrite my previous "sex" connections. It worked surprisingly well, i have no craving to jerk off now, it just feels weird, same for watching "straight" porn. I never binge now nor do i feel an urge to binge. I just hump the fleshlight without a case every once in a while. It takes 5-15 minutes and that's it, whereas when i was addicted i'd go for 1-2 hours jerking binges and i'd ejaculate up to 6 times per day. You can check my topics on this.

I don't know having read some of the stories from people here any age can have a range of different experiences of addiction.

I fit into your category, I'm 38. I managed a 90+ day streak when I first started last year but as I've said many time here I don't think I was ever addicted, certainly not the extend that some people here report.

Some younger people have never known anything but porn on tap, high speed internet etc. Whereas I can reminisce about a time when I could enjoy porn in a less intense way, magazines, downloaded stills etc.

I don't think age, length of exposure is the key issue, it's the extend and reliance on it's use and the affect that it has had on your ability to have a normal functioning sex life.

The longer you are addicted it makes things worse-I agree, but there is much more things than this singe one.
My personal opinion is that teenage is harder to leave PMO because he is in puberty, hardest time to fight this battle but not impossible.
If you are in your 30s my opinion is that is easier than in teenage period, because most people at 30s have wife and kids and know his life purpose, those people will handle situation little easier than teenage who have much freetime. All of that is my opinion but there is much things that have effect on situation like:

-Are you started with magazines at young age or started with porn at young age?
-What type of porn addict you are?Vanilla type is something that is "Normal" and mostly people start with that.Have your addiction goes above that?Femdom,sissy,bdsm...etc
-After "Normal" porn stop with giving enough pleasure and become bored then you start with more extreme things, example from vanilla to femdom, and you make addiction more stronger.
-How long you PMO and how many times a day?

I will tell you my experience.
    I m 19 years old now,i stop PMO when i was 17 years old.I started PMO when i was 12 years old.
Yes that is 5 years of addiction, that really doesn't seem to be much.(I mean in compared to other people, because i have seen people here with 30+ years old addiction)
But during that 5 years i watched femdom everyday and PMO 3-5 times a day.I think that is extreme case even if i m young.

I've been binge (P)MOing daily for 25 years and I'm nearing 400 days streak in hard mode/monk mode now. If one finds the will, there will always be a way out of any addiction.
