I haven't completely cut music out of my life, however I have cut certain types of music out. For example, a lot of the modern pop, rap or rock music is often full of immoral imagery and can truly damage your mind and alter your morality. Since cutting these toxic forms of music out, I have only been listening to forms of music which I feel can benefit me, such as Christian worship songs, nature music, classical, etc. I've been listening to a Spotify playlist which has a couple of Ancient Orthodox Christian chants on it. I find it very relaxing and soothing to my soul.

This comment is underrated, that's why I'm quoting it. "Music can change your emotions and alter your perception of reality". You guys can't say it's not true, I really felt what he said. And for me I did have good time in the past hearing music but I think it can really have a bad impact on you, it did have a bad impact on me. I was shy, I was less focused etc.

  5. Interesting thread. These days we listen to music passively a lot. We have it on while doing something else. I could see phasing out having music on all the time but still choosing to have some active listening experiences sometimes.

    I feel the same.

If someone wants to experiment, I suggest the following:
1: only listen to music when a song is on your mind and you like that song. Only listen to that song.
2: learn to recognize when a song makes you feel bad, and leave it

Music listening can increase our dopamine levels. There is a reason almost anyone loves some kind of music.
Aside from boosting your mood and amongst other benefits music can help you complete tasks more easlily and increase creativity at work.

I have a relative of mine working on psychology field applying music therapy to the patients.
I remember a story about a girl with Down's syndrome. This girl was around the age of 19 and she was a really serious incident.
After a few sessions she started for the very first time in her life to try to express herself verbaly and her physical communication improved a lot.
It wasn't much of a speech she was just trying to communicate with some noises but for her father and of course for the girl it was something.I remember her father crying from happyness after that(her mother left them when the girl was a baby and as soon as she noticed the problem with the kid).Of course you can't cure that with music but you can imporve people's life.

On the other hand as i stated on a previous post we are not all the same. Some people got disoriented from music while others simply don't appreciate it too much.
I believe even those people, if they add music in their life will see improvement though.

Music is stamps on our brains, it has profound effect on our bodies - both physically and mentally.

Sounds may be remembered for years and years, just like sights (..of porn), so past experience sneak up on you and hurt you even long after the actual encounter. That's why one should be careful about the kinds of audio he or she is exposed to.

Music might also interfere with your activities, making you less productive by grabbing your attention. It might make you tired more quickly because it makes your body require more energy. It might even become a crutch for certain activities, like exercise.

Then there is also the escape effect, where putting on headphones cuts you off from the world and numb your brain, giving you just enough of a rush to stick to it instead of trying to socialize, etc. Music may become a very mentally-passive activity.

  9. If it was warm outside I could maybe do without music but the winter is just too depressing being inside without music

Same here...I realized hey, I depend on music a lot for my mood throughout the day. Maybe I should just stop cranking it up all the time. Was listening to a lot of nature sounds on Spotify for a while, don't know if that counts as a crutch? I've stopped even that.

I think music absolutely facilitates an altered perception of reality - at least for me it was and is a definite trigger to daydream for days and weeks on end. Quitting it altogether hasn't quite helped me improve my productivity a whole lot (I tend to waste countless hours reading and watching films regardless) but at least I feel I am myself without music. Thanks for sharing brother

Music produced by Satanists may be, but to suggest music (in general) is Satanic is an extreme view. I do not agree.

I guess the only way to find out if you will feel better without music is to cut it off for like a month and see what happens. In fact, i will try it myself. Pretty curious about it

    3. ADJECTIVE [usually ADJECTIVE noun]
You use extreme to describe opinions, beliefs, or political movements which you disapprove of because they are very different from those that most people would accept as reasonable or normal.

In my humble experience, when I'm meditating its kind of easy to let go of thoughts and just observe, but when my minds starts to play some bad music it feels extremely inappropriate. Like Barby Girl or Cotton Eyed Joe shit. That's why I started to have as little exposure to shit quality music. Instead I caught up practicing piano what I have neglected almost for 10 years. It feels a totally different dimension of music with your own feelings in it. Im feeling sorry for the people on the subway who listen to dubstep/pop shit over shitty headphones as loud so everyone can hear it... I wish I could show them what real music in like.

Good luck to you fighting too. :)

No idea why, but abstaining from music is proving to be much more difficult than abstaining from porn for me

In the experiment i'm having till now, i have found out that no music at all doenst change your hapiness that much. However i did had more time to read in public transsport and think about thoughts when i went for shopping. But i do miss the crazy dancing at home while cooking, therefor i believe if you listen to music while also dancing and singing, its kinda good for you. The same goes for sport or metal heads, after intens dancing/moving, you feel relaxed.
