Pro porn/ anti NoFap advocates seem idiotic

There might be psuedo-science, but if there's one thing most of us can say: We feel a whole lot better when we don't watch porn. That's hard to ignore.

You do sound biased, though.

Calling someone an idiot won't help.

I won't say what I really think in public as if this is a town square haha but I figure someone making millions in the industry isn't going to respond well to a guy like me typing on a forum like this by calling them a nasty stupid idiot for it.

Screw it money isn't everything and yes they are as dumb as they come.

Edit: Actually to have a mega billion dollar industry requires the misuse of great intelligence. I would reckon they might not be idiots per se, at least some, but they surely are misguided and deluded.

Well, people on NoFap have their own biases as well.

From what I've heard it's a bit more complicated than that. Scientists are divided on the issue because the studies are as conclusive as some would like.

 

Everyone's idiotic relative to one's reference point! So where do you stand, is a more important thing than what's not-stupid.

 

Porn effects some people worse than others.

 

What I find so strange is how some strain of the sex-positive movement seems to even grip onto the sex-negative aspects of porn. Yes, it was ridiculous in the 1950s to shame the shit out of your kid over a Playboy magazine, and even today shame is a useless defense that many anti-porn groups use against porn users. But NoFap isn't about shaming porn users.
Instead, it's about treating porn like a drug and addiction and how to overcome it. So Rolling Stone and Vice have both published articles claiming that there are either no side-effects of porn addiction or that porn addiction flat out doesn't exist. It's like being pro-alcoholism or glorifying a damaging lifestyle. Some of these sites appear like PR for "big porn" than they do "pro-porn" or "sex-positive."

 

My econ professor taught me to never assume your opponent is stupid. Besides, whether they are or aren't stupid is of no concern - what matters is whether they're right or wrong. With this particular issue, I like to think that our opponents are mostly good people who have not experienced our perspective yet. There seem to be a lot of idiot Fapstronauts, too, but I can similarly see the good in them.

 

There is a lot of evidence now showing that porn is one of the worst things there is for the mind. Even with people that think it doesn't affect them, it does. There is nothing wrong with sexuality ... but sexuality is not what porn is. Porn is warped and unrealistic and degrading. Terry Crews is openly anti-porn and admits to having a porn addiction and his YouTube channel is pretty awesome. It's also encouraging to see a well-known celebrity openly admit that it's a problem.
