Omg you are so dense. You show me an outdated study of MICE and claim that humans sexuality is based on serotonin. Dumbass, if that was true I wouldn’t still be straight, and everyone on SSRIs would suddenly be interested in new or different genders. I’m cringing. I’m not against Christianity or your views or anything, but if you’re using unreliable information to be dishonest nobody will take you seriously.

Insulting someone doesn't really make you smart or knowledgeable.

These are studies and it's NOT a RULE the way you clinging on it

Also SSRI does not increase levels of serotonin they work on the receptors just like benzo drugs work on GABA receptors.

I don’t give a fuck, I’m just calling you out on your lying BS. It’s a study with zero weight, again explain why Addyi didn’t change my sexuality despite my serotonin being lowered. There are several medicines that lower serotonin, and I have never seen someone report a change in sexuality from lowering their serotonin. Now if you find proof of meds for lowering serotonin changing sexuality, THEN people will be less turned off by you.

Okay 0 logic, I think you need to leave your Amish community and get updated in the real world. SSRIs ultimately increase serotonin.

No, they do not. They are called re-uptake inhibitors, meaning they block reabsorption of serotonin, which makes the receptors believe there is more serotonin than it really is. In the long run, the receptors downregulate to adapt to the signaling. That is why psychiatric drugs do not work in the long run and that is why, upon cessation there are withdrawals. And that is why there is a withdrawal for SSRIs too. Moreso, the body actually downregulates serotonin or other neutrotransmitters when on reuptake inhibitors - the body sends a signal there is too much of it (because of the inflation in the synapses caused by reuptake inhibitors).

In the mice study they genetically modified the neurons themselves and that shows a much clearer picture on the implications of serotonin, whereas psychiatric drugs work in different ways.

Anyhow, your success in sexual attraction was likely due to Wellbutrin, which is known to help with that. Wellbutrin also acts like a ssri even if it's not one.

On top of that Addy is only a partial agonist so it's not really comparable to a mice that had it's serotonin receptors knocked off.

Basically the resulting consequences in the mice cohort are vastly more potent (in any direction) than what a generic drug can do. Also, the dosage matters too.

I think you should really STOP making assumptions about people you have no clue about.

    You'll get further in life.

Serotonin syndrome does not prove anything. Your body will interpret it has too much serotonin as a consequence of the receptors getting overtriggered because of reuptake inhibition, but that only means that there is too much serotonin in the synapse (because the inhibitor keeps it there). You can get serotonin syndrome while having low serotonin, it's all in the synapse and inhibitors.

    It’s not an assumption.
Christians using unreliable findings to argue about homosexuality is not an assumption. Again, I have seen ZERO proof of your claims happening in humans. I don’t have a problem with gay people. People are gay simply because they’re born in sin and everyone has their sin that they struggle with. Being gay IS NOT a sin, acting on it is. You can’t “cure” gay people with science. That’s why all of your claims are not just unreliable, but also false. Have you guys ever read the Bible? And all sins are equal, you guys calling attention to homosexuality is uncalled for and targeted hate. I haven’t seen anyone talking about fornication or adultery, so it’s clear that the homophobia is real with you guys. If you fornicate, commit adultery, or have lust then you simply have NO right to be homophobic to someone that also has a form of sexual immorality just like you. The Bible is not a book of science, trying to use science to argue about homosexuality is a bad tactic, and frankly wrong to do. Read the Bible and start treating people equally, instead of targeting and singling out people with sins that are equal to yours. Calling out homosexuality isn’t bad, it’s when you do it from a position that’s clearly hateful. You need to be calling out ALL sexual immorality or you just look like a homophobic dick, that also doesn’t know what they’re talking about trying to use science to back up their hatred.

There's a lot to unpack here. First of all, all the arguments i have forwarded do not come from a Christian perspective because i understand not everyone is a christian and more importantly because scientifical arguments by themselves suffice when making a case against homosexuality.

From a strictly Christian perspective, which again i am not forwarding because people have varying creeds, homosexuality is a sin. This is not debatable. It has been specifically mentioned as such in OT and NT never contradicts it, in fact only heterosexual relationships are mentioned. And no, i don't have to call all behaviors as sins just because i call out one in particular, especially since that one was under discussion.

More so, homophobia does not exist, it is not a word. A phobia is an [1]irrational, [2]pathological (meaning it requires professional mental health intervention) [3]fear. None of those conditions apply because literally nobody is afraid, let alone irrationally and pathologically afraid of homosexuals. Just because one does not agree with the behavior and/or criticizes it does not mean he or she is a "homophobe". It's simply a person that, for whatever reasons, does not accept that behavior. Slapping a -phobia on something you don't agree with is dishonest because it removes the other party's arguments and implies it is crazy and has no valid arguments. For example, some people do not like Trump, but calling them Trumpphobes would be disingenuous and would be dismissive to their reasons for not liking him. Calling them Trumpphobes would imply they have no reason not to like Trump and that they are irrational and crazy.

Pretending that hate for gay people doesn’t exist is silly, homophobia is just slang for that. Does the original meaning of lit mean awesome or being high? No, the meaning of words change over time. And no being homosexual is not a sin, you clearly didn’t read what I said. It’s ACTING on it that is. That would be like saying that it’s a sin to be a straight man, instead of their actions of chasing pussy outside of marriage. It’s like saying that being a child is a sin, instead of their actions of disobeying their parents. You are confused.

Sins in Christianity are not only about actions but also about thoughts. That's why adultery for example is not just about the actual physical act but also when one "looks at a woman with lust". That's also why you're sinning if you hate someone else even if you don't act on it.

A "phobia" means only one thing when it comes to humans. You can't have a word meaning different things when the context (suffix) is the same.

My two cents on all this is that when a straight person becomes attracted to things outside their sexuality, be it gay stuff, transexual/transwoman stuff, or even stuff that is still straight but doesnt fit their natural preference, such as femdom, it stems more from lust and mental conditioning than actual sexual desire. The human brain is incredibly malleable, you could condition yourself to be turned on by paving tiles given the right conditions, or something equally as ridiculous. If you masturbate to porn with men in it for long enough, even if the man is having sex with a woman and you are focusing on the woman, it stands to reason that after a while the possibility arises that your brain will start to link men with arousal. This is why the classic porn escalation cycle starts with lesbian porn, then progresses into vanilla straight, then further to more extreme stuff, its the introduction of new novelty elements that excites the brain the most.

That is correct. We already know people can and DO develop sexual attraction and response to very weird stimuli, like animals, dead corpses or even cars .

That's the primary reason why i reject the argument of homosexuality being normal because "it's what he/she is attracted to". People can get sexually attracted and develop a sexual response to anything, that attraction by itself is no proof that the said attraction is normal.

I don't see what your issue with homosexuality is. You say you can't base your disagreement with homosexuality, be it in practice or merely a state of being, on the bible because people come from varying creeds that define their own sense of morality. Then, if I'm understanding your argument to the degree it deserves, you go on to cite neuroscientific evidence in the support of...what exactly? It seems to me you're trying to make the claim that because sexuality can be changed that means that homosexuality is not normal or natural? Which means that it is immoral? Which verifies the biblical standard of anti-homosexuality? I won't make my counterargument until you feel satisfied I understand your point.

I just mentioned a study that was done involving serotonin levels and same sex attraction .

I have nothing against homosexuality and believe that everyone should do in life what makes them happy.

I should have specified who I was talking to. I was talking to @ultrafabber as he seems to take issue with homosexuality and was using the evidence you provided in an attempt to justify that. If I've even understood his argument correctly.

I seriously cannot believe some of the posts here and the need of some people to keep forcing the opposite opinion. You all know that this kind of topic splits people in two groups and that it is almost impossible to convince and change other people's mind. Why do you keep discussing and forcing it, then? I really hate to see this, especially from the leftists who keep embracing the respect and share of anyone's opinion, however they bash the one that is complete opposite.
jack_hammer obviously had same sex attractions that he didn't feel comfortable with and found a way out. He feels happy now and that he is achieving the purpose. Why can't you let it go? If he is happy and thinks one way, just feel free to ask him to elaborate, not go and say "oh you're wrong, you have no clue". Not only does that cause unproductive conversation, but you might even discourage your fellow brother in recovery. This can really feel discouraging - shame on you!
Besides, science has spoken and whoever feels to check out for details and try to understand, instead of concluding on his own premises, (s)he will. ultrafabber even bothered to explain a bit - I wouldn't even give a second of effort there, so well done, man!

In conclusion, can you all stop having useless discussion or at least bring it to your private place (thank God, you have inbox and various messengers) and let people like jack_hammer share their own experiences to encourage others who feel dissatisfied, discouraged or even depressed? Please? Let us keep the purpose of this forum as it should be.
