Disrupted sleep during recovery?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by GrowingStronger, Feb 27, 2020.

  1. I find that Ive been waking up in the night far more often and have in some form become a light sleeper since I abstained. Is this normal? How long until it gets back to normal from your experiences?

My sleep has been so bad since starting nofap as well, granted it's never been great which is why I can't really afford for it to get any worse but nowadays all I'm getting is about four hours and then crappy broken sleep afterwards. I'm day 32 by the way and it's not gotten any better.

  3. It's basically been the same for me. I fall asleep pretty easy then I wake up (4-6hrs later) and sleep in 1-2hr intervals until morning depending on the night.

My best nights I wake once, and these last three days have been like 4 times a night. Its frustrating because being tired makes it a lot harder to resist.

For me I feel like I'm not sleeping at night, feels more like I close my eyes for several hours. Whats weird for me is that I'm at the gym by 6 am, work during the day and in bed by 10 pm and still feel energized.

A common side effect of NoFap… my symptoms are similar... fall asleep easily but wake up at 4am then sleep in fits and starts for another hour or two.

In my case however, things do usually settle down and my sleep improves.

Do you sleep the same when you're drunk and when you're sober? Nofap is agonizing for this single reason that our bodies are going through a rapid change, because our body isn't wasting as much energy as it used to we tend to feel ok even after sleeping less. I've gone through it over and over, and although there is a pattern the sleep requirement spontaneously changes that also is why nofap is so hard, but after you cross flatline it's stable, everything's stable, but nothing doesn't have disadvantages. Going through it all over today is the peak of flatline, need your help guys.

  7. I've been reading a fascinating book on sleep ("Why We Sleep" by Matthew Walker) and really think sacrificing those benefits is only worth it if eventually, it will return to a normal full night of rest. Since you are at the 194-day mark how often do you experience the sleep interruption?

Does it improve significantly after 90 days in comparison to the first month? It doesn't need to be perfect as long as most nights you can sleep as well as you did before the journey started.

  8. So this flatline point is what I was hoping to hear. I needed to know there was a stable healthy end goal and not a sleep-deprived life which tbh I'm not interested in. How long into the journey would you expect this to be? 3 months? 6 months? a year?

45-60 days in hard mode, 90- 120 if you delay it. The more you delay the easier it gets. (Only if you're addicted).

I couldn't sleep at all for days in early recovery. Insomnia was part of the game for many of us. You just have to get through it. It gets better after a couple of months. I needed about 5 months into the hardmode to start getting some decent 8H sleep at regular hours, but everyone is different.

  11. Thanks, that gives me a clear target to shoot for. Kinda light at the end of the not so long tunnel. =)

  12. Thanks for the reply. It's great that you experience lines up fairly close to helping hand. 4-6 months in should see a marked improvement. Maybe minor improvements 2 months in. That's an exciting prospect.

Its not an exact science... my sleep patterns settle down after a few weeks.
I suppose any future sleep disruption may be due to NoFap or could be attributed to other factors... stress, work, alcohol etc

I could start sleeping well after around 60 days.

Interesting thing is I am having the worst insomnia ever since, at nearly 240 days. This shit has come back last week, which I didn't expect, and it comes with severe anxiety, palpitations and hot flushes. Darn, I was doing good in my reboot until that! At least now I know what it is, namely PAWS from PMO. Just like @onix said, feeling energized after a very active day, turning and tossing in bed.

Hey man how are you doing now. I am having basically the same symptoms. Did it improve after a while?
