Yes, but you need between 6-11 months of complete abstinence on average (up to 17 months in worst cases) -> May 24, 2019

Most probably not, but they do lead to relapses which cause big setbacks.

Of course you can recover. Will you be the same as if you you had never been addicted? No. But can you heal substantially, yes. Alcohol kills brain cells, but alcoholic can still recover

Not me but my husband has been addicted 40 years. He had severe withdraw, it took 4 months before pied/Ed was gone. He’s over a year clean but still has a chaser after sex and still deals with intrusive thoughts. Some days are still a struggle.

My husband and I do have sex, but it does make his anxiety worse and the struggle harder mentally.

I don't know, man, sometimes I think I'm fucked up beyond all recognition. Two decades of this shit concomitant with heavy alcohol abuse and all types of drugs. Get rid of this crap ASAP everyone, or pretty soon you'll end up adopting other addictions just to keep up with that twisted neurotransmiter pattern. I just feel like an empty shell, and I'm only 32, I think there's still so much for me to do in life, but I just feel like sitting here burned out... My God, forgive me and bring me back to life... (Anxiety and OCD are sure to follow... I'm on a bunch of meds to deal with that).

You’re 20 years younger than my husband. With the right help and a genuine desire to quit, you can. Fortunately for him, he has no other addiction and never has.
