Anime vs. Hentai: A Problematic Sexual Behavior Dilema

    Note: I’m a newbie, I’m not sure if this is the right forum section for this but I looked them all over and I think this the most relevant one.

    Hi guys newbie here and I have had something bothering me even before my recovery. I have watched anime for a very long time and it’s one of my favorite story telling mediums, with some great shows like FMA, Charlotte, MHA, and much more! I watch pretty much all the seasonal as well as watched much of the classics but I have come across a problem. Even though I readily enjoy anime, I have noticed that there are a lot of sexual things within many different Anime’s that are both sexual in design and not, and these tend to trigger the “desires”. Usually leading to watching Anime porn or Hentai. So my question for users is this, is it possible to watch anime and enjoy the stories but not get caught up in the sexual nature of some scenes. And those who also watch anime have you experienced this and how did you cope with it, if at all?

    If you're using a streaming website that has nsfw ads you might want to switch sites. Using a torrent site like nyaa.si is also good.

    The problem isn’t with the ads as I use Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu. The issue is more that with anime a seemingly not sexual anime will sometimes drop sexual things into the show seemingly at random.

    Well. It's up to you. If you feel strong enough and sure that watching anime wont push you into hentai then go ahead. I like some anime to, however i dont watch it at least for now, cuz i liked hentai too, and those can be... well f***** up. My problems with pornography and sexuality started with hentai. In my opinion it softly introduces you to weird fetishes. Some scenes I could watch and "enjoy" in hentai but i would vomit if i would swe similiar ones in normal pornography.

    Use Adblock Plus, if a site asks you to disable it switch to an alternative.

    filter out those animes that frequenlty have scenes like this. you dont have to watch all of them, there are way more fun things to do in life.

    I think Anime is probably my most frequent choice of entertainment and I feel your pain man. There's a lot of sexual stuff in Anime to grab certain people's attention. I find just avoiding Ecchi or Haram Anime is a good strategy.
    On my journey on Nofap I found a new found love with Romance in Anime. In my opinion, Romance Anime captures more of what a real relationship is like then what Hollywood shoots out. There are some bad eggs but it's mostly very good. When watching them I always think "That's the relationship I'd like" y'know supportive and life-enhancing.
    If it causes you to relapse then, by all means, step away from it for a little while I don't blame you. But like I said staying away from Ecchi and Haram Anime is totally reasonable.

    I'm gonna shut up now.

    Japanese people likes to do that in the animes, you can't do anything because there is a lot of times you don't expect it to happen, just keep a strong mind and avoid ecchi animes aswell.

    So here is another thing, me and my friends are watching an anime every week, and sometimes an ecchi or harem anime is suggested. I really do like my friends and enjoy our night time anime watching... I'm scared to not show up as I feel like they will think something is up, and I really do enjoy watching the shows with them... Do you guys think I should just skip the times we do ecchi and harem, or do you think it would be possible to sit through it with them? I know everyone is different but the opinions you guys give are very helpful!

    skip it, and tell them the acctual reason! they might laugh at you and think your crazy, and will try to change your mind, but if theyre real friends they wont be bothered after a while and will accept you as you are
