Does it get better? The longer I go, the closer I feel to relapse.

I’m past 30 days, and every day so far has been a greater struggle than the last. Can anybody who has long standing streaks support the idea that it gets better later on/the longer one goes? I almost feel like I need a reset to continue, but I know in my heart it’s just my addict brain talking, my motivation getting weaker, and my defenses degrading.

  2. Congratulations on 30+ days! It does get better as time goes on, I feel like the the idea that we need to go watch a porn video/ read a dirty story and M becomes further and further away the longer our streak goes on for. Restarting a streak after an extended period of time is the absolute worst. Stay strong!

  3. That nag in your mind to want to take a look, just quick peak some of this or that, is a sure sign that your brain is desperately trying to get you to reinforce those neural pathways in an attempt for pleasure.
Right in these moments it is most important to replace the PMO habit with something pleasurable but constructive. If not you will keep white knuckling until you buckle under the pressure. It’s happened to me so many times.
Eventually you’ll find that although you still have the cravings in the day, they are much more brief and much less intense. Transfer that energy into something new and beneficial to your life, it’s crucial.

It's hard, but you gotta keep pushing through. Remember what happens after the relapse and how it's only temporary relief. The real way to get rid of all the urges is to push past this and not relapse. You got this! I believe in you so you should too! Good luck!

  5. Yes. It really does get better. REALLY. There will start to be days where it feels downright easy. (But that's dangerous too, because you must remain vigilant.)

Your brain will do everything it can to make you feel that breaking the streak is the best way forward. If making you horny isn't working, then it will make you depressed and in need of comfort. Or come up with some other random rationalization. Don't listen. Fight.

Keep pushing it. Aim for 90 days and then report how you feel. I've only just recently started and the urges to view P are still there but I have to remind myself how disgusting and fake it is. I still struggle with Psubs or pictures of women (slavic women in particular) but I have not PMO'd so to speak. Your brain and dopamine will still try to trick you into thinking you are aroused or try to require that dopamine hit. Just think of something else and keep busy. That is the key.

I can certainly say for this addict it has gotten better. The truck is to define better, we tend to be into instant gratification, perfectionism etc. Best way I heard it was its like the stock market: if you watch every twitch all day with money on it you'll go crazy and make stupid decisions but if you let it ride and decide on a measured, paced strategy involving checking every x days you might make money. Ah so fur example for me every year and every month has been better but not every week much less every day. Another good way I was told is the addiction had a money back guarantee. If I ever think "x years of no pm has been a silly misunderstanding" I can make up for lost time in a matter of hours with a few thousand bucks :)

Hey, what are you doing to help stay clean?
hi, a really good book to help you is Treating pornography addiction by dr. Kevin skinner. It helps you identify your triggers, and learn outer, inner, and middle behaviors. Sa and saa groups are free. You can do phone groups or find in person. Going to a csat is ideal, but judging from your age it might be too expensive unless your parents are willing to help. Remover though, urges pass, it’s your choice to stay clean or relapse.
