Has anybody else been having sleep issues since starting nofap. I'm on day 12 now hardmode and must of had 5 really shit nights sleep. It was never a problem before i started this. It really does not help my mood being tired and touchy a lot of the time. Iv'e been working out more and have a physcical job so i cant do that much more to wear my self out.

Yup, I did at first, and for a week took herbal sleep remedy to help me drift off. After a week I had got over whatever was keeping me awake.

its weird, even when i do manage to get to sleep, i will be waking up within a couple of hours then have to struggle to get back to sleep. I used to be able to sleep a straight 8 or 9 hours easy. might have to look into some natural sleeping aids. any recommendations?

    Hey,

It depends on whether I'm stimulated while trying to sleep or not. If I am then trying to sleep turns really hard. When I can't sleep for whatever reason I sometimes grab a warm glass of milk with a bit of honey. Sometimes watching a film or documentary helps you out too. You can also look after a sleeping tea. Maybe there is anything like that at your place.

    Best regards

    hey man

I normally end up turning the tv back on in the end. It doesn't help me sleep but does stop me going insane trying to sleep. hopefully i will figure out a solution soon. There's nothing worse than going to work feeling like you already done a hard days work

The solution to getting back to sleep is to not concentrate on sleeping. That causes frustration. I've experimented with sleep a lot since I started getting into lucid dreaming. The most effective way of getting back to sleep if you wake up in between is to let your mind wander. Don't fixate on thoughts, let one thought lead onto another. If you do this right, you will become sort of nostalgic and start bringing up thoughts from your past, from when you were a child, etc. Don't fixate on any though, the key is to let your mind wander and keeping jumping from thought to thought. You will soon start having weird dream like related thoughts and scenes taking place, you will feel like your floating. This is where you want to be if you want to get back to sleep. This does take some time and practice, but I can assure you once you have nailed it down, it will fix your problem. Try it out, and report back with your experience. You can also use this method when wanting to get to sleep in the first place.

    Good luck my friend.

Also I'd like to add, being 3 months in on hard mode, I can survive on much less sleep without feeling crap, plus I workout and have long days. This could also be down to good dieting as well. Keep abstaining

    Hi

I like the theory mate. I can see how this would work because i think my main problem tends to be over thinking certain things. I will try it out and let u know the results. 3 months of hard mode is also impressive, fair play to u

    Thanks.

That's right when you over think, your brain is active hence not being able to sleep. Float like a butterfly, sleep like a baby lol

had yet another terrible nights sleep. I really don't understand why this is happening. It seems to be almost every other night. Nothing i seem to try works at all.
I ended up knocking my self out with last night with temazepam which is not something i want to make a habit off because i have a bad history with these kind of drugs.
This little sleep really is hard to function on and is bringing me down at times.

Have you made any progress since Matt? I've been in your position before and the frustration can get to you which makes you focus more on trying to sleep, and that does more harm

I've been getting few hours of good sleep as well. I think about things intently. The most random things I tend to over think. Last night all I could think about when trying to sleep was ISIS and the United States' Government reactions to it. I have no idea why. I'm going to try using your method, Heisenberg. The whole "let thoughts flow" thing. My brain functioning is unbearably shitty at the moment. I'm not even sure whether or not anything I'm typing makes sense.

Im getting around 6 hours sleep on average. Most nights are still an effort to go to sleep and I still wake up a few times most nights I've always slept for 8 hours before I started nofap so Im sure it is directly related. I feel like my body is getting used to less sleep now, although I don't think I'm getting a healthy amount really. I haven't had a completely sleepless night for a while now so things are improving. I've tried your technique @HeisenbergBlue but I find I hard to put into practice. meditation before bed seems to help but I have to make sure I try to fall asleep straight after or it has little effect on my ability to fall asleep.

I had similar problems when I started, mainly due to wet dreams ruining my sleep. I'd really like to question more about what the healthy amount of sleep zone is, as now 5-6 hours for me will allow me to function really well, where as 100 days ago, I couldn't survive off of less than 8.

The technique is very difficult to practice, even for me some days, because the frustration can get the better of me. Meditation will help you in this area, keep doing it. Also, what do you usually do if you were to wake up in the middle of your sleep ?

I've found it good practice to just quickly shut my eyes, keep my head down and not move, this puts me straight back to sleep. It all comes down to not fixating on getting back to sleep or worrying about it.

Yea at first I was really struggling with the lack of sleep but now I'm getting around the 6 mark I don't feel to unrested most days. I would like to get an extra hour or two in on the week days tho, I'm sure I would feel better. more sleep = more gym Gaines which is always a plus. If I wake up I tend to get pissed off roll about and if I can't get back to sleep end up watching the tv for a while which I can't imagine helps but I would rather do that than lay there stressing out.

  18. fishmatt7,
I'm late to this discussion - but yes, when I was on my previous NoFap stretch (before this one) I too suffered with chronic sleep depravation some nights - mainly through battling with urges. Getting off to sleep in the first place was not so much of a problem for me - but then waking up during the night with an urge and then I would be awake for ages trying to resist the urge to fap.
It's a dilemma because of course fapping is a big energy drainer, but not sleeping due to NoFap is a huge drain too.
On balance, NoFap is always the better solution - but suffering from disturbed sleep is a bit of a killer after a while. Perhaps reading a few pages of book or some meditation might help. If you're suffering from sleep loss due to urges, then it might take something a bit more distracting like getting up and doing some push-ups or going and making a light snack. T.V. can sometimes tend to stimulate the brain a bit too much, and so it might not help you get back to sleep. Same goes for the internet - which should ideally be avoided altogether during the night.
I really hope you manage to catch up on your sleep and get those extra couple of hours you need.

    Hi
Its not so much urges. I have PIED and also flat lined almost from the beginning of my NoFap journey. Its just an over active mind most of the time. I might start reading instead of watching tv later on in the evenings and see if this helps. I've never been a big book reader so this would be beneficial to me anyway. I feel ok on the amount of sleep i get now. its not perfect but its a million times better than the first couple of weeks. I still cant believe how much NoFap can damage your sleeping routine.
Thanks for the kind words man
