Struggling to sleep due to PMO

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Apr 14, 2020.

  1. Hey guys,

This is my first post on this forum. For years I have been under the possessive influence of porn and masturbation (started P 8 years ago, M 7 years ago). I have noticed the vivid affect this disgusting and obsessive habit has had on many aspects of my life and am determined to put a stop to this act once and for all despite my many relapses.

I am fully aware of my trigger points and have developed a plan and tactic to minimise them (Avoiding being alone, decreasing my time on social media, switching my phone and laptop off at night time etc.) Whilst this has helped, unfortunately it seems that my efforts are useless.

When I go for periods of time with no PMO (4 day streak), I develop sleep insomnia. I cannot sleep even if my life dependent on it and will not be able to fall asleep until I give in and relieve myself. As soon as I orgasm I get a massive dopamine rush of tiredness rushing through my body. I relapsed last night because of this.

Are there any suggestions and tips u guys could give me that I may be able to use to counteract this issue? This issue is really affecting my motivation to stop this act. Your responses are appreciated.

    Cheers

There are several things that make you fall asleep quickly:
First - you must set a specific time for sleeping and waking up (it should be as stable as possible)
Second- You should only go to bed when you are exhausted .. Try to do the work that requires a lot of effort and make you feel tired before bed
Third - you should try to get as far as possible away from your phone, laptop and TV screen two hours before bed
Fourth - If you go to bed and you cannot sleep after 20 minutes, you must get up again trying to do any work (such as reading books .. preparing a snack .. talking to other people with you at home) but try not to get close to the internet. And then try to return to sleep after a period of time
I hope this helps you my friend ..

My advice is to try your hardest to use more energy during the day, studies have shown that during the first 7days of abstinence from orgasm testosterone levels increase quite dramatically, and then on the 8th decrease to around regular.

Theres a chance the excess testosterone is keeping you awake as your body is not use to it. Try waking up earlier (i like to also have a cold shower) and do some form of exercise (enough to cause muscle pain) and then see how your sleep goes that night, your body and mind should sleep easier to conserve energy for muscle repair.

Also i put all technology on the other side of my room, that way Its not easily accessible and i need to get up in the morning to turn off alarm.

Don't be afraid if you are not able to sleep. Just close your eyes and relax.
There was a Hungarian man name Paul Kern in WW1 had been shoot in head. His brain was damaged and he became sleepless.
The point is he kept calm at night, just stayed on bed closed eyes and relaxed . Therefore his health was good in spite of sleeplessness.

I noted that getting really tired from exercise seems to help me, but ofc naturally it will make you feel more tired. Alternatively, keep working/ reading/ doing stuff till you feel tired seems to work aswell and a light hearted podcast as you are trying to sleep, becuase sometimes otherwise the thoughts seems to get quite loud in your head.

But hopefully you find your own way man!

In my personal experience, in the beginning, no matter how much activity I had during the day or calming infusions I would drink, etc, there was no improvement in my sleep, I had very severe insomnia, some days sleeping 30 minutes if any. It's related with your dopamine receptors.

So just be strong and keep going. It will improve over time, in my case it started improving after two months of reboot.

  8. Avoiding sugars and carbs hours before sleeping will tremendously help, I always had problems sleeping and found that the excess unused energy I got from eating was a big reason
