I thought I was done...

    I thought I had gotten over my addiction. I thought it was over. I started dating my girlfriend a little over a year ago and had been porn free for a year. Until I slipped. It sucks when I do and I feel like I have no control. She lets me know how it hurts her and is very open to working through this with me. I've turned to here because I want help. I want to get better. I want to fix my relationship, and hell, I want to fix myself. I fall into self-loathing every time I mess up. I want to get better. But I don't know how to. How do I fight the urges? How do I overcome addiction?

    What has recently helped me was simply being honest with my wife. Promise yourself that every time you relapse, you tell her within 24 hours. This helps two things. First you consider the embarrassment and shame you will feel when you have to tell her. You then suffer and remember the consequences. Two, this will be fair to her. This will allow her to make a decision on if the relationship is worth her while. Because we may be struggling with the dependency but in the meantime, we make our loved ones suffer the most.

    You’ve been clean for a long time. I have faith in our recovery. As a side note, Maybe it’s time to change something in the bedroom. Maybe, you have a craving for something different. Talk to your girlfriend. That might be the answer why you where so good then needed more, so your turned to porn. Changing things definitely make it better for me and helping me living no pm.
