what is the harm with masturbating once a week?

    i want the full reboot, i want not to be daily affected by masturbation, and being able to function daily.
    but i believe that first i need to get used to not ejaculating at all, and not fapping.
    and then mainly for health reasons, do it once a week.
    maybe if i'll get a girlfriend or wife, i'll even stop the once a week habit, but i do believe that preventing myself from ejaculating for a year is not healthy.

  3. To answer the question you started the thread with, masturbation is not harmful, in my opinion. It is a source of pleasure and pleasure is not dangerous by itself, as long as it is not a way to get relief from anxiety. Anxiety and pleasure: these two should not be bounded, if you ask me.
    I came to this community after I realized that porn (and by reflection masturbation) had become a cure for the anxiety that I often felt. That been said, I plan to get back to a healthy intimacy with myself as soon as I will feel comfortable and my trouble with porn will be resolved. I say this with great respect for people who pursue the ultimate detachment from porn. It is a personal choice and what works for you or me may not works for someone else.

    Regarding a controlled amount of porn, I am skeptic. In my own experience, it is difficult for us, who acknowledge to have some kind of addiction, to "keep things under control". Every time I've set myself a limit, whether it being a specific amount of minutes, times every week or content, I failed to some degree. Last time I relapsed I had allowed myself to watch 10 minutes of mildly erotic content; I ended up spending two hours and a half on extreme porn videogames. If you ask me, it could be dangerous to expose yourself to porn after a successful challenge, let's say 90, 120, or 360 days and I would'nt recommend it, nowadays (maybe within ten years I'll become the cruelest porn advocate :) ).

    That being said, I am still a newbie to the NoFap way, though I've been working on quitting porn for some years by now. In some ways, I share the doubts you have expressed about what it could be wrong and what could be right. What could be healthy and what could be harmful. Questions like these haunt me, above all when I am facing urges.
    In the end, it is up to you to decide what it contributes to your well being. There may be more scientific evidence that porn can be addictive and impact your brain, but there is no rule written on cold stone if you think that you can or want still have porn in your sexual life.
    Most of my friends are perfectly able to use porn without the cons (at least that's what they say to me and the other "boys in our gang") and don't suffer from porn becoming a need. On the other hand, I can't do this, as many Fapstronauts in this community.

    Still, as the replies over mine demonstrate, people have different opinions on this topic.

    Let me thank you for opening this thread. It is fruitful to discuss about such things with an open mind and honesty.

    The harm is that masturbation reduces your energy and vitality. That’s what I’ve observed from myself , what others have attested to, and what makes logical sense.

    Science is always behind the curve. They’ve only assumed that masturbation is healthy, they’ve probably never investigated it fully, it would be a difficult thing to prove anyway.

    Sex is a compromise to maintain a healthy relationship. Masturbation is not, it’s such a waste.

    For me, masturbation is only truly helpful if I have absolutely not looked at any porn or porn subs for a long time. Like at least a week or more. I mean not even a peek.
    If I masturbate even 24 hours after viewing porn or p-subs, I consider it basically the same as masturbating to porn. I am honest with myself about that. If I do it, I reset my counter.
    But sometimes a man deserves to release his seed. That's his choice! If you need to masturbate, pick a time and a place in which you feel you can own it.
    There is a huge difference between a guy who compulsively masturbates and a guy who does it once a week or every ten days.
    #1: No porn. No p-subs.

    I beg to differ, it´s been proven that sex does highten testosterone levels. Heck, I´ve ejaculated multiple times in a night with my ex-girl and the next day I went to the gym and could lift heavy. On the other hand, when I´ve masturbated I´ve felt so much weaker. Your body knows if you are doing it right. Although a couple months ago I was so horny I banged an ugly chick and the next day I felt like shit so I guess if you have sex with a girl below you´re class it´s like watching porn haha

    It's really your mind playing tricks on you. You really have to know yourself and know what you want from this. I used to think the same thing. Like I'll be missing out on something or not doing something that I've done majority of my life. Stay strong

    About the girlfriend/ wife part. The thing is. I am an insanely lucky guy and get laid pretty often. A wife/ girlfriend or hookup occasionally isn't going to solve the problem. The problem is in your brain. Because even if you have a partner or similar. You will still feel an urge to fap. That part you need to control.

    You won't prevent youself from ejaculating for 1 year. You might prevent yourself from fapping for a year. But thats where the wet dreams come in. If you dont "release the pressure" your body will take care of that for you.

    my doctor said twice a week masturbation is fine without porn when you wake up with morning wood. but for me, i don't like masturbation without porn, i have no interest at all in it. and if i start porn again i will follow my old routine again.

    so basically most people here cannot adjust to 1 or 2 times a week because we were addicts. thats like telling a heroine addict to use it only one or two times a week, its going to increase again because he was already addicted to it

    also u are not stopping ejaculation if u dont masturbate, we have wetdreams. once u stop masturbation u get them again. i got 2 of them so far while im on day 16 nofap (which is roughly once a week, so instead of fapping once a week i get a wetdream, problem solved)

    Yes if you can leave it there and not get triggered to look at porn again because you are sexually stimulated. Hard for me personally, wish I could control it like that.

    Says who? it's shown that monkeys only masturbate when they're locked in captivity. It's a degenerate act that makes you ashamed. Also, if you're recovering from an addiction, you need a minimum of 26.4 weeks to fix all the gray matter in your brain damaged by it.

    It depends on who you are, how you're made. Some people may have 0 bad effect, some may have a lot.
