I have noticed that many normal no PMO support groups, eventually end up with religious fanatics. Many people on such support groups are tempted to believe an ideology so extreme just because 'at least it promotes no PMO', and usually the moderators in such groups allow it on grounds of 'spirituality'. I was in 1 group where I was talking to a user about how biblical inerrancy is not a well-received ideology, and the catholic church says how evolution is possible, I told that user "it is inaccurate to label anyone who believes that the earth is over 8020 years old as a 'fake christian' when catholics and old earth creation is actually a thing, and catholics are actually christians, however he is still fully free to have his beliefs" and then they reply by telling me to convert to their sect of christianity. And according to the community, what they did is an act of spirituality and what I did is an act of "unspirituality" so I was temporarily muted in that server

Why do many such support groups delve into religious fanaticism? I just want to stop watching porn and masturbating, I don't want to become a religious fanatic.

I don’t know what support group you’re referring to, but clearly it wasn’t something that you belonged in. NoFap for the most part is very open and accepting, and nothing at all like that.

I’m a Christian and always have been, but I’m always open to new ideas and input from other people because I recognize that their opinion is no less valid than mine.

I think the reason why you tend to find those sorts is because PMO addiction drove them to become deeply religious because they used it as their solution to PMO, and some might have already been religious and are in those groups because of the associated guilt religion tends to impose on those kinds of activities.

I'm definitely open for new ideas, etc. I actually believe in the existence of a creator, what I don't believe in is a doctrine, a set of rules to unconditionally abide by, but I also believe that religion has had positive influences on society as well. This is pretty much in line with how I was raised (hinduism) but I'm perfectly okay with people abiding by a doctrine. You're right in that it's possible to encounter such people due to how addicted they were, and it's also true that maybe I didn't really belong there. Thanks for replying!

Absolutely! I think you’ll find NoFap to be much more to your liking. Welcome to the community, and I hope that it can be what you’re looking for.

  5. So... don't become a "religious fanatic" then? I don't want to do "monk mode" or take cold showers or a ton of other things people talk about here all the time. So I just ignore those threads, because they aren't for me.

Exactly. I take everything on the Internet with a grain of salt, and try to focus on what actually works for me.

  7. Because they know they can get away with it - being religious is the status-quo. In America, people just assume that you are a Christian. It's disgusting.

Your assumption is that people shouldn’t share their thoughts and feelings.

Another thought from earlier in the thread, lots of judgmental thoughts bubble up every time someone calls another group judgmental. Often times I think people feel more harshly judged than they are.

  9. No, my problem is that religious radicalism is tolerated because society/this website has a bias in favor of religion, while other forms of radicalism are not. I don't see an Ethnic Nationalist forum or group.

Religious radicalism? You're kidding right? Yes, nationalism isn't widely tolerated because it has been proven time and time again to be destructive and to create an atmosphere of superiority and hatred.

I'm not sure what you're referring to with 'religious radicalism', but to me it seems like you're upset because not everyone shares your opinion, and your obviously very negative attitude toward religion. o_O

  11. That's what I meant. Do you think I'm calling all religious people radical? Yet another ignorant and illogical post from you, it's starting to not be funny anymore. But go ahead, keep slandering me.

I don’t see religious fanaticism on the board.

  13. Nationalism is everywhere.

  14. This is actually the card I should have played.

OP referenced "fanaticism" and I didn't check to verify his claim. So I assumed a hypothetical scenario where his story was true. My comment should have been "if fanaticism exists, then it is because of X." That would be more consistent of me to say.
