Does masturbation decrease your ability to learn new things?

I feel that masturbation has messes my brain up to the point that it's hard for me to focus and absorb new things. I have a strong desire to learn something I've never learnt before/new set of skills in order to become a better person in general. But right now, I'm struggling to absorb everything that I read/hear. I'm a forgetful person. Sometimes, when I'm reading an article or something, I can't even understand the whole sentence without repeating it several times. Is this what's called brain fog and can NoFap fix this?

Yes this is what brain fog is. Masturbating can definitely affect your thinking and ability to process thoughts. Nofap can definitely help with brain fog but if you are naturally a forgetful person then you still might have difficulty focusing regardless of brain fog and Nofap.

It can definitely be a significant factor. I would say though it is bidirectional even if the degree of influence may not be the same, that is you can also learn new things to decrease the urge to masturbate. Have you read books like Your Brain On Porn by Wilson? You don't need to recall everything for it to make an impression on you.

Also I noticed you posted in the other forum on diet and fitness, that will of course also help but it is most likely much slower in its effect. Still though if you clean up your diet significantly and not just reduce amount you can notice mental clarity very quickly, even if it won't lead to huge changes overnight.

  4. I can't guarantee this, but I can testify that NoFap really helped me out with thinking. I just remember everything now. The change for me was most noticable about song lyrics. I'm a vocalist, and I could never remember song lyrics. But now I remember all of them that I sing, which might be as many as 1,000 across many genres, from Barry Manilow to Maroon 5. I have sung a lot of karaoke, just to keep fresh when I don't have a gig, and I usually don't have to watch the monitor when I sing. I know the lyrics. I can look at the crowd instead.

This makes me think of the question of whether music is helpful or not, which people sometimes ask on the forum. As with many things I think it has to do whether you are passively consuming the media or actively making/performing it. In the case of music they know it works on a different part of the brain, so a way to further rewire especially for people who are keen on affirmations is to SING it rather than just repeat a number of phrases.

As a singer who is rebooting can you name a few songs that speaks to this even if indirectly? Some of the best messages are implicit anyway since it prompts the mind to make sense of it and put the meaning together.

For anyone reading this idea remember you can just do it in the shower or in the car privately, it's about exercise rewiring not judging or having your voice be judged.

I can tell that ever since I started nofap my overall studying performance much increased. Nofap gives you the hope and the motivation and the will to do more and more. For me, I just can't stop improving. I study Atleast 2hr a day and even more. The answer is yes!

  7. I made a post last month about an album by the Killer Dwarfs called "Stand Tall" because of how it relates to NoFap, on a lyrical/textual level.

I'm a musician/songwriter/vocalist, and I've been doing this since 1979, so it's my mo. In other words, I was a musician before I got addicted to PMO, I was a musician during the long years of PMO use, and since my first streak of 2018, have continued to play music.

Yeah I think it's going to work on a deeper level when people don't even do any singing in the first place.

I definitely think that masturbation makes you comfortable in your own zone.. it not only stops you from learnig new things, it also affect your ability to appreciate better things.

Not only that, it stops you from making a connection with a person, may be a friend, brother, parents, or a girl. It takes away the determination of chasing down something.

Bec your brain gets the same feeling after masturbation, that it has achieved something.

  10. Oh the Killer Dwarfs album? What are you crazy? They sing the whole album through.

    That's why there are "lyrics"....

No I mean in general for people rebooting to begin a singing practice, I still gotta look up your thread. The idea being you're involving a different part of the brain. I'm just thinking for people who never even ever sing to use a part of the brain that is essentially almost completely unused up until now and associate that with messages of rebooting. My guess is it works faster for you because you already have those pathways and wiring but it's good if people who are not already singers put in that effort.

Yes, your brain is affected by masturbation(with or without porn). Now it depends how much you masturbate in general(on week - there are persons that masturbate for 7-14 times a week). All what you do with this (compulsive/excessive) masturbation is to fry your brain (and that imply an negative impact on your cognitive abilities like learning or reading) referring to the neurochemistry of this complex organ. Take care about your brain - is about training. Stop masturbating and having sex for a while(it would be a great decision to stop masturbation for your whole life) and begin planned activities like sudoku(you will see that your brain is untrained, you'll spend 20-30-40 minutes for a easy game), reading(if fall asleep while reading less than 30 minutes that means that your brain isn't trained), math, writing( on a journal 2-3-4-5 pages on a day with high attention and with rereading your notes, also you can improve your handwriting). The dopamine levels are destroyed after orgasm with masturbation&porn, your body(the human's body) isn't made for daily sex, and there exists a strong relation dopamine - motivation. You should know that if you're addicted the brain is always searching for the restore of that high levels of dopamine. Time + ambition + work = success. AND offer love & affection in this world (in every single activity, not just in sex).
Btw, ejaculation also affects your physical perfomances... Try a dopamine detox.

yes, I appreciate your affirmation. The PMO is a shortcut for our lives - you do not have to communicate and interact with real persons to obtain something. These two things(P&M) ruin our social lives( and our societies) because there appears a lack of empathy between these two genders... etc etc

  14. Completely agree with this post, masturbation (particularly excessive) and with the use of highly stimulating porn in this day and age, it certainly does effect the brain in many ways. The above quote, i.e. the dopamine effect is a key area which is massively effected, which results in brainfog, loss of concentration and memory lapses.

The other thing which drives me, is the ignorance that our semen is actually a life force. Every time we ejaculate we actually lose some of our body. This can over time effect us physically (i,e, our body have less nutrients e.g. zinc, testosterone) and also this effects us mentally too (i,e, memory, motivation, brain fog).

Obviously the above are extreme cases, not everyone who masturbates will lose their memory, however given the huge amount of stimulants freely available at the current time, I would not be surprised to know many are in that category (myself included)

  15. Yes, I see what you mean. Keep in mind that learning is relative. The effort that I have to make to get from where I am, to improve, is the same as anybody else's.

The difference is that I can hear a new song, and learn it after a few listens. Usually if it's a rock song, I have an idea of how it goes after one listen.

A person who is new to music takes a lot longer to learn a new song, but the effort is the same.

When they spend one hour figuring out basic chords, I spend one hour getting it close to performance.

Everybody is sharpening their own knives, relative to what knife they have.

Fortunately when it's music you enjoy it can be fun. Even if someone doesn't memorize it I have to think it rewires on some level, if for no other reason than the deliberate emotional expression rather than having it be reactive only. Generally speaking peoples favorite songs has to be somewhat inspirational as well so it taps into that..

  18. Probably it "rewires" the brain. Science is unsure about this, it's a "grey" area....heh heh

I see what you did there.

If anything it wakes up an unused area of the brain, I gotta think people who don't normally sing are doing something different. For me I don't even listen to that much music, there are no doubt many songs I like but just don't know about and of the ones I have heard I could already sing many of them as a practice.

  20. Obviously, you are right. And I'm a long time musician. But any time someone gets out of their comfort zone with learning, they are helping their brain.
