No sports during confinement

Discussion in 'Self Improvement' started by Deleted Account, May 16, 2020.

  1. Sports is a form of voyourism and living through another person.

I've enjoyed not imagining being a part of a sports club during confinement. The confinement of sports has helped me stop imagining being part of a sports club. It was a real feeling similar to watching a movie while using suspended disbelief.

I no longer care about sports figures. I don't imagine being on their team or being friends with them. It is the same feeling and attitude I had watching porn or pretty women. It is also the same feeling I had being surrounded by love songs on the radio.

I hope you join me in calling B.S. to appreciating these imaginary sports and sports idols as we are calling B.S. to imaginary porn and women or men idols.

    Peace-out.

  2. I always thought watching someone else play a sport was kind of weird. But I don't really have a good justification for whether we should or shouldn't watch sports - I just personally choose not to. But I think it's good if we go out and be active ourselves instead. I never watched vanilla porn and I've never really wanted to be in the shoes of someone who fucks a lot of women. I will probably only care about fucking one woman. Why do we need to have a million relationships? Sex to me isn't about making your 'dick feel good bro' but I imagine that's what it means to a lot of people.

I can see how you extend this logic to porn. What's the point of watching it when you don't actually get anything out of it, just like sports? It just makes your dick feel good, which is a stupid reason to ruin your life. Either way, I'm sure we agree that NoFap is the way to go for us. Good luck.

That's a good point. With any group of fans you'll see some dude that's like 400 lbs, one of the most enthusiastic but it's like you wonder whether the only kind of movement they are engaged in is talking to the TV with popcorn falling out of his mouth or something.

And another aspect is the glory - be it real or imagined. Even when real it's just the adoration from other people. I am not a sports fan in general but on occasion I've seen professional athletes say very wise things and it clearly reveals they are not driven by what the masses think. Contrast this with social media Likes and you have yet another example of this. I guess in a way it's like voyeurism vs. exhibitionism.

By the way, if we carry this further then it's not hard to see how the principles apply to the concept of challenges on here.

    I can relate bro.

I am a huge sports fan myself and always played a lot of sports growing up, but as an adult I no longer play just watch. I still find myself thinking/fantasizing all the time about being a pro athlete and wishing it could be me in that life.

But the reality is, like you said, is essentially living vicariously through someone or something else. I would not say sports are in any way bad, if anything being active, exercising and participating in sports is one of the great things about life...but when you are merely observing I do see how it can relate voyeurism. Still not as bad as P, but I see what your saying.

the one thing about this pandemic shows me is how much I relied on sports for entertainment and how much of my life sports took up. In reality, it is merely games and entertainment and the people involved are really just normal people who are skilled in one specific skill set.

I do believe though that sports have a very valuable part in our society, all humans should have models to look to for inspiration, and learn about hard work, commitment, dedication, persistence, accountability competition, etc.

Sports is essentially an art form and art is the closest thing to divinity. The good far outweighs the bad, so I don’t think you should be so quick to write it off. Sports is not the enemy, there are far greater evils in the world.
