What you watch and listen to has an impact on you

  1. Let me give an example of this: If you read the history of the Jews and how they have been prosecuted for a long time you then sympathize with why they behave the way they do in Israel. But if you read the POV of the Palestine you will think that Israel is being over zealous. When you have read both side you see the nuance of the problem, it’s not black and white, rather it’s a lot of grey. I am not trying to get political here, just showing an example. The same could be applied to anything in all aspect of life.

1 year ago I made the decision to stop following the news. Understand that I used to follow the news religiously, reading 5 news article a day. And when I did I noticed there was less mental baggage on me because I was not worried about what was going on around the world, things that I could not change. Now I only focus on what I can change or control directly.

And that’s the action I take everyday to better my life.

This is why I love listening to men like Jordan Peterson, Jocko Willink, and Joe Rogan because they always inspiring me to do better, to be better. When I listen to a Jocko Willink podcast I feel like I am not doing enough, in the sense I could improve in some aspect.

Jordan Peterson taught me the value of being a man others can rely upon, and being a good man that can be dangerous when needed.

Joe Rogan has taught me the importance of working smart so that you can spend time doing what you enjoy. And I listen/watch them on a regular basis as well as other men that I look up to, men who are where I want to be in the next 5 years.

Because of this my mindset and energy are always geared toward getting shit done. I occupy my times with looking for business ideas or trying to create. Don’t get me wrong I slack and watch some Netflix or YouTube but after one episode I get bored and need something to do. Something to stimulate my brain and productivity

One more example is my favorite fictional character from the show Billions called Bobby Axelrod. He’s a ruthless Hedge fund CEO who will stop at nothing to win and make money. In a recent episode he gave a speech where he said “ I am a monster; A carnivorous fucking monster. It was success or oblivion for just as it was for you“.

The line added fuel to my inner fire; it keeps me going when I am tired or want to give up. We all need something like that to keep us going. That is why you need to start to pay attention to what you watch and listen. I am not saying to go watch 10 shows a night but what I am saying is watch the quality of content you consume.

Go to your YouTube feed and check the quality of content you watch, remove the negative and useless ones. In fact reduce the amount of time you spend there unless consuming something educational. Check the YouTube app where there is a section called Time Watched. Do the same with your social media. And add things that make you want to be better, do better.

I also feel, the time people spend on electronic devices , i should spend that much time with my near and dear.........

The way fast electronic devices computes, i should get that fast ideas to spread happiness to near and dear once..........

I have observed kids , teen who have not been exposed to electronics devices till age 20, they become successful...

    That is so true.
I usually watch YouTube every day.
When I watch motivational, positive videos and videos on self development, I start to feel better and I tend to feel my thoughts better.
Whereas, when I watch pranks videos, mindless meaningless, vines and stuff, I find myself in a shitty mood.
But there's one thing, i always enjoy these mindless videos more than the positive ones and I usually end up watching shit most of the time.

I have to force myself to watch meaningful videos while it's quite the contrary in the case of these meaningless videos.

  7. 3 years ago i was were you are right now.But i still watch meaningless stuff too, i do it relive stress and relax when i am working. The trick is to watch meaningless videos are a reward for good behaviour eg you finished one hour of studying so you reward your self with 10 mins of meaningless videos. Remember when you do watch meaningless videos you should set a limit/timer on them. Then watch motivational videos when you have no motivation. Hope that was helpful

Technology really has provided us with too many distractions. It is also eroding our morals I think. I look at Instagram and it is just filled with women exposing themselves. Young women see this growing up and think this is normal. We are concerned with image and then there is no substance.

Totally agree that you have to be weary of what you consume. So much negative influences out there, and people doing crazy stuff just to get a like on social media. I have come to realize how much I miss genuine social interaction. Just time out relaxing and having good conversation. Television and social media is no replacement for true human interaction I believe. I have started to view so many of these things the way I view porn. Spend time with real people, have real conversations, do real activities together, form meaningful relationships.......etc.

We are literally letting life pass us by is how I am feeling recently, get out there and have experiences.
