Porn is bad, but is masterbation really that bad?

Napoleon Hill put it this way on getting that sexual energy we all have under control: “When driven by this desire, men develop keenness of imagination, courage, will-power, persistence, and creative ability unknown to them at other times.”

I can only assume that he is more or less talking about what the NoFap seems to be all about: controlling that sexual energy and using it for a greater good to better our individual lives. But does the goal have to be no masterbation ever again? There is a lot of time in the week to be productive with that sexual energy if someone only jerks off once every 7-10 days without porn, just using their imagination, (as opposed to never again: which seems to be the goal of a lot of guys on here...and maybe that’s not a good goal to have because...let’s be honest: good luck achieving that one).

My 11 day streak of no PMO ended today as I have binge jerked to porn 6 times today so far.

I wonder though: 3 days ago I was in the front yard when out of nowhere these hot girls rode past me on their bikes in their summer outfits (you get the idea). I quickly got excited and had to run in the house and take a cold shower immediately to control you know who (this is what napoleon hill was talking about right?: taking that sexual energy that built up then and instead of jerking off, going to use it for something productive).

What if instead of taking that cold shower, I just went in the house and jerked off (using only my imagination and no porn or social media or anything). Would that have really been that bad? Jerked off once in 8 days, and then put together immediately another 7-10 day streak.

Point being: unless I’m planning on becoming a buddhist monk, maybe masterbation is not the enemy. Porn and the filthy crap on social media (which basically is porn) is bad; but masterbation once to twice a week only using ones imagination isn’t bad, is it?

After all, someone who spent their who’ll life only jerking it 1-2 times a week only using their imagination and no porn; I think most of us would say they have that part of their life under control. But when someone like me says: I just jerked it 6 times in one day so far, I clearly don’t have that part of my life under control.

Eventually I want to see what everyone is talking about with the benefits of those 90 plus day steaks of no PMO. But baby steps first:

Masterbation is okay from now on with only the imagination, but no porn or social media. I have to believe that how often I masterbate will naturally lesson on it’s own if I don’t have the mental stimuli of porn to encourage me. After all, whens the last time most of us have masterbated without porn or sexy pictures?

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

I think masturbation is an issue of conscience, and you are of course free to set the goals that most help you.

Quitting masturbation will help you focus your energy outward, find motivation to pursue real relationships, and increase your self-mastery and self-esteem.

Helpful encouragement that I have received is to pursue quitting both, but not to beat yourself up too badly for masturbating, but to try to limit it and fantasizing as much as possible.

  3. Imagine that you could pleasure yourself anytime wanted, absolutely no drawbacks or problems or whatsoever. Doesn't it sound too good to be true? While we should focus on porn primarily, we can't deny that the act itself isn't wicked. Many people report lack of energy, poor sleep, poor attention and whatsoever. I agree it's still up to debate, but I've chosen my side clearly.

Besides that, quitting porn means a huge reduction in fapping as well.

Theres nothing wrong with masterbation in moderation, the same as drinking is fine in moderation.

But addicts dont exercise moderation. No alcholic says they are just gonna have 1 drink and leave it at that for the day. It turns into a full on binge.

For PMO addicts trying to quit porn I think its best to remove masterbation complety. In the thrills of the moment its too easy to slip into a full blown relapse.

  5. Neither porn nor masturbation are the enemy. And I wouldn't go so far as to call any of them "bad." The challenge is 100% personal - to control our own behavior and live the way we want to live.
